Getting a surgery date

Someone please explain to me how the docotor comes up with a surgery date when he doesn't even know if you're approved? Do you start getting anxious/excited and then all of a sudden they have to reschedule because they haven't approved it yet? I go next Friday to the surgeon to discuss all the results of my tests and set a date and time. Do I ask him this same question?

ya know, I've wondered the same thing. But I got to thinking about it and I'm assuming that if they didnt think the insurance co was going to approve you, they'd just put it off and have you come back in after it was approved. It cant hurt asking the dr, you have the right to know. Good Luck with everything on Friday and dont sweat it, everything is going to go your way!!!!

This very thing backfired on me the first time I attempted to get the surgury. I was seeing Peoria Surgical Group and they scheduled not only the surgury, but all of the pre-op testing as well WITHOUT insurance approval. They failed to mention I should not get the testing done if approval doesnt come back. I got over $1200.00 pre-op testing done before the insurance came back DENIED. The surgury was cancelled and I am on my own to pay for all of the testing I should never had done. I am now seeing a different group Barix Clinics and hopefully they send more than one half page letter and one office visit to the insurance when they seek approval. And I learned my lesson about the pre-op testing. I guess I should have known better but I didnt. She told me to be at the hospital on a certain day and time for tests and I went. I did not consider that I would be paying for it myself. I thought the Peoria Surgical Group knew all the rules and would not have me get $1200.00 in tests done if I would have to pay myself. I am sure some people are happy with them but my experience was a HUGE waste of time...and money (not to mention the $400 non-refundable program fee). Good Luck with everything! Sorry it was a negative post...your question brough back some bitter feelings I have for PSG. Julia Just pre-op
