Overnight scar change!

Okay, I look at my scar every day. I had open RNY, and it's about 9 inches long (yes, I measured, lol). Yesterday, it was still bumpy, stiff, pink, raised, and what I call "segmented," with horizontal lines spanning across it every 3 mm or so. In other words, it looked like a long earthworm. My surgeon said it had keloid features. There are also 28 pairs of marks representing sequelae of staples that run parallel to and on either side of it, and they are also pink, raised and hardened. But today, the proximal first 3.5 - 4 inches of the scar, as well as the staple marks on either side of the section, are still pink but are now SOFT and FLATTENED! I love it, but what in the world happened? How could it change that much overnight? I have never applied any cream or anything to it. Has anyone else had this happen? I'm happy about it; I'd figured I'd have to live with my abdominal worm the rest of my life - but this is cool! Just wondering if it's within the range of normal. For those of you read my previous post, I'm still depressed (I have come to terms with the fact that I will always be too fat to find true love and provide a father for my daughter) and not losing weight, I still haven't had the confidence to call the surgeon or find a church, but I do feel something at my core that indicates a change may happen soon. Please keep praying for me.

Jenny, Sweetheart, give yourself a chance;) You will NOT always be too fat to find true love. There is no such thing, first of all, as being too fat to find love. Lots of fat people fall in love and get married every day, some even to 'normal' sized people. Secondly, YOURE SHRINKING. Every day, you're getting smaller. You might not see it, but I GUARANTEE that some day soon, if it hasnt happened already, someone is going to think your child is with someone who is NOT YOU!! THEN, you will see that you look SO DIFFERENT that people dont EVEN RECOGNIZE YOU. BUT, the hardest changes are not on the outside. The most difficult adjustments are in your head. Dealing with your body image. I still fight it every day. I still look in the mirror and see 242 lbs. And as you can see by the pic on my profile, I'm definitely not 242 anymore. My head knows that, but my heart is slow catching up. You might be the same way. My advice to you, (too bad I cant take my own advice!) is to give yourself a break. Youve taken the big leap, the gi-normous first step to reclaiming your life. It is not always going to be easy...but then, what was the last thing, really worth having, that DID come easy?? Cut yourself some slack. Just take one day at a time. Dont worry about forever, worry about tomorrow, getting through it, and being the best Mom and the best person you can be. Be good to yourself, love yourself. Everyone else will follow!! Remember that we love you here, and we're always here for you!! Keep that pretty chin up, girl!! Love and hugs, Kathy B
