Well I was not completely comfortable with the decision to go to University of Chicago hospital for the surgury. The drive is crazy and I could not find enough positive to convince me that it is the place for me. Not saying it is not an excellend facility....I just decided it is not for me. I now have an appointment with Barix Clinics in Belvedere by Rockford. It is about a 1 hour drive for me but easier than getting downtown Chgo. What can anyone tell me about Barix? I have a consult on August 16th. I would love to get to know someone who has already gone through this with them or also plans to. Please post here and I invite anyone to email me. I look forward to it. Thank you! Julia

Hi Julia, First off let me say I did not have my surgery there. I do live less then 10 miles from there however and I have had 3 friends have their surgeries there. They all can through with flying colors and are doing very well. I was impressed with the care they were getting when I was visiting. The hospital its self is VERY small. Don

I went through BTC (now known as Barix). I liked it a lot. The hospital is small, but you have to realize too, that it is all they do there. There are no babies being born, cardiac patients, ect.. I suggest going to one of their support groups first and talking to people who have had it done. Also read some profiles and reviews.

Hi ya Julia Barix, BTC at the time, was my first attempt at venturing into the wls world. I was very pleased with my prospective surgeon, Dr. Vaughn (what a hottie!) and the staff there. I ended up having some insurance issues, basically halfway through the process the policy changed somewhat and BTC was subsequently considered out of network. I got some help from the person in the office there in Belvidere, after having some trouble with the insurance person at their main office in another state, but I ultimately had to go through another program. I guess what I'm saying is that I would've gone there ! I have several friends who have had their surgeries there (one of my friends would marry Dr. Boe if she could LOL) and have had little to no problems at all. My only piece of advice to you is keep on those insurance people and get to know your insurance people ... make nice with the insurance people lolol and that applies anywhere you go! Best of luck to you!!!! Cathy

I know several people who have had surgery at Barix Clinics. They couldn't say enough about their surgeons and their aftercare. They don't just turn you loose like some of the surgeons out there. They stay with you and guide you along the way. I plan on attending some of their support groups before I make my final decision.

I can't say enough nice thingd about Barix. Before you go to your consult you could also go to a seminar. They have them from time to time. I checked on their website and they are having one in Chicago on august 12th. If you want more information you just go to their website: www.barixclinics.com and then you have to click on News and Events and then click on Upcoming Seminars. I had the privilidge to meet some of their staff and her Dr. Vaughn speak at one of their chicago seminars when I was in town...it was great!

Julia, I had intended to go to Barix, but for several reasons decided not to. If you want to know why just email me I won't post it here because negative comments towards Barix seem to incite something personal with those who have chosen them. have a great weekend and good luck to you no matter what you choose! ~Jenn

Julia I am planning on going through Barix as well. I had my initial consult the end of June, and due to some red tape am just now getting the insurance paperwork in. I was VERY impressed with Dr Vaughn, and the time he took with me during the consult. My only concern still is just that Dr Vaughn does not do lap...he is far more comfortable with open, but he says the incision is only 4 or so inches long. (just something you may want to consider) Please e-mail me if you want more info, or would just like to talk. Good luck and God bless! Anne K
