I have an appointment with them next month. I was seeing Peoria Surgical Group and they did not do much to help me with my insurance. I am seeing University of Chicago' PCOS clinic as well as Bariatric Surgury. Hopefully with their help we can prove medical necessity. I have 3 major co-morbids and several weight related conditions. I was hoping to find someone who had their surgury there or plans to. Pease respond here or email me. Thanks!
Julia
Hi Julia ... My surgery was at the UofC Hospital ... which is where I assume you are going. John Alverdy was my physician. There is another physician in the surgical office, though; but I cannot remember his name. Our wonderful nurse, Kim, just left earlier this month. I have not yet met her replacement. Best of luck to you!

Hi Julia
Last Oct. I went to the University of Chicago Dr. Alverdy is a great Dr. The only problem I am having is help from the new nurse. BC/BS did not approve me and asking them what to do next to get approved is what I am still looking for. I also have 3 major weight related conditions. I am working with a lawyer now to get approved. Stay on them on what to do next. This is a good hospital.
Julia,
I had my DS surgery at the University of Chicago Hospital on 6/23. The U of C is one of the top places in the country for bariatric surgery. The entire program impressed me, especially the close follow-up of the patients afterward.
I am a nurse (RN) at that hospital, too. So, I would not steer you wrong!
There is a great support group that meets from 5 to 6 pm the first Tuesday of every month. The professional staff attends the meeting, too. Future patients considering the surgery, patients in the pre-op workup phase, and post-op patients (no matter if recent or years later) are welcome, as are family/friends. The surgeons want the patients to attend at least a couple of meetings ahead of time to meet other patients, hear their stories, and to really hear about "the good, the bad, and the ugly". Once you go to a meeting (which is free), you can sign up to be on the email list if you wish. They will email you a reminder before the next meeting, and will also email you a report of the minutes which is great if you can't attend in person.
Best of luck. Let me know if you have questions. The staff are very helpful. Both surgeons have excellent reputations and bedside manners.
My surgeon is Dr. Prachand.
God bless you on your journey to health!
