Just home, not much energy, looking for nutrician help, or foods that seemed to work. I am a bit afraid of 100% juice having too much sugar. Also came home on oxygen, overall was not such a good experience. My arms are purple from the anesthesia not finding veins, he should know right? Help, need some support please, husband is being a help, even with all the meetings, we seem like we are not doing well. THANKS Claudia Schmidt

I was told that the juice has to be diluted with water half and half. Be careful!!!! Just remember you did this for a reason. Things will get better!! I know it's hard in the begining. But, once you start losing and the pain is gone it is all worth it. Just take care of yourself. And it sounds like you have good support. God Bless

My first few days were spent eating oatmeal and sugar free popsicles ... that's it! So either of those might help ... And the advice on the juice is right ... definitely dilute it! Hope you're feeling better in a day or two! Nancy LapRNY 4/12/04

Claudia, First of all, congrats on making it over to the "losing side". I had my surgery on the 20th and have been home for a day now. I almost went home on oxygen (fortunately stats picked up day before I left) I talked to my doc about this and he said even if you have to leave on oxygen that doesn't mean you're doing terrible or not doing something right, it' s just something that happens (especially since where we've been cut) also I don't know what you're starting weight was (mine was 370lbs) he said sometimes when you're abit larger it takes slightly longer for the lungs to come back. He did reassure me that if I had to go home on oxygen it wouldn't be his first patient and that it wouldn't affect success with my weight loss. So, I wouldn't be too hard on yourself for having to go home with oxygen. Anesthesia also had a hard time finding veins on me, so I have some battle bruises to show from my experience. I just glad I don't have them in anymore My energy is alittle decreased too, but understandable because we've been through some MAJOR surgery. I just try and give myself a break in this area. I do get up and walk about the house and take very short walks with my hubby. But if I'm tired I sleep, if I overdo it alittle I'll even take the percocet they sent me home with to help with discomfort. If you can send me an address or good e-mail address I can send you the info they've given me also the info another bariatric center gave my friend (might be helpful in giving you some ideas). Also I would contact your dietictian and let them know your concerns. Right now it's alittle bit of a pain (I hate this stupid abdominal binder , but I know it was a good thing to do and we'll both be glad we did it acouple of months from now. Take care and god bless, Sandy

Hi Claudia I came home over 4th of July Weekend. It was great to have my wife here to help. I didn't want to eat anything but she was there to make me. I had ordered Broth Plus mix from Resource. It has more protein than regular broth and tastes OK. Also Ensure was tolerable. It was OK but I heard Boost is better. I think they have a Boost Plus that has more protein. I didn't like the taste of any juice. I used to like white grape juice but now can't stand it. Sugar Free Popcycles were a god send. It helped get bad tastes from my mouth and helps get fluids. The Jewel in Carol Stream carries some tropical flavors. Dominicks just had Berry, Orange, Grape combo box. I was able to do applesauce early on. I had tried the tasteless protein additives, but had no luck. They don't add a whole lot of protein and my experience is that they do change the taste, but someone told me to mix it with applesauce and then let the applesauce sit for a while then you won't taste it. I never tried that though. I was also able to eat saltines real soon, I know no protein, but it helps get things in you. I am 5 weeks out now and eat a lot of different things. I have not tried steak, but have had beef in chinese food. I also do some no sugar added carnation instant breakfast with milk. It works OK and it higher in protein. I still have trouble getting all of my protein but have started using these meal replacements that I had when I was on a liquid diet. I have some left over from HMR (Health Mananagement Resources Corp). They are high in protein and have about 110 calories a package. They can be ordered online, I use their lactose free 70 product. I know it might not seem like it, but it will get better. Just try to get more protein as you go along. Drinking water will be easier to get in as well. I am just getting over the why did I do this to myself thoughts. Also try to walk if you can, it will help and get easier as you go along. I start back to work around Aug. 9th, seems like time flew by. Email me if you have any questions. Hope this all helps.
