Approved or denied

Upon applying for WLS with your insurance company, were you initially approved or denied? I was approved the 1st time

denied and all 3 appeals denied...self paid

I had United Healthcare and was approved first time around.

Marsha - I had a screwed up ins. co. was approved the 1st time, then denied after the surgery and then paid 3 days later. Go figure!

Hey Marsha I have BC/BS HMO IL and was approved in 3 days My PCP gave me a referral and it said..... "Patient needs obesity surgery" Good thing my surgeon wrote a very detailed letter about why I needed WLS...LOL I feel so sorry for those battling to get approval now.... seems like alot of hoop jumping! I had BCBS PPO and was approved the first time. I don't think that would happen now - they have really made it difficult to get approved. Glad I had mine last year! I am from Rockford too! Char Lap-RNY 6-23-03 -96lbs

Good Morning, I was Approved after the first letter, but it took 3 months! The following information was sent on my behalf: 1. Letter from Surgeon stating medical necessity and co morbids 2. Letter from PCP stating medical necessity, co morbids and diet history 3. Letter from ME describing my diet attempts and how the diet is affecting my quality of life (including sex) 4. Co-Morbid Factors: Sleep Apnea, Hypertension, Osteo-Arthritis, Irregular Menstrual Cycle

We have Health Alliance. I was first denied because I had not met their criteria. Once I did the 6mth supervised diet I was approved and had surgery less than a month later. Diana
