I'm approved!
Unbelieveable!!!!!
My PCP sent ME the letter to the medical group, since he didn't know where to send it!. It didn't say much, other than he thought I would qualify for surgery. I asked my surgeon (Dr. Vitello) "what do I do now?" ... *****sponded on email and asked "why didn't he send my report, too?". SO..... I contacted the PCP's office, and advised them to send the letter AND Dr. Vitello's report, to the medical group for approval. I was figuring that I would be denied, and have to go through all sorts of tests and psychological stuff.... but today (3 days in total) I get a call from the PCP's office that I have been approved!!! The nurse then faxed me a copy of the approved referral.... I am in shock... it only took 3 days. Blue Cross is already asking for my surgery date for their files.... I must say, I am really impressed with BCBS Blue Advantage HMO. This is almost too good to be true. My first appointment with my surgeon was May 6th.... and here it is 6 weeks later, and I'm approved.! All that time waiting on the PCP and surgeon to write their reports... then submitted and approved in 3 days.
Unbelieveable!!!
John....... That's fantastic. I have UHC ins and just got my approval last week. It sure feels GREAT doesn't it. I too still have all my pre-op testing and consultations with Psych, Nutrition, Cardio and Pulmonary to do...but I'm not scheduled for surgery until near the end of the year..... my choice.
Contratulations....... keep us posted.
Wishing you all the best as you begin your journey.
Doing the HAPPY DANCE for ya !

FANTASTIC! This is great news. I can't believe you have BCBS and got approved so fast. Reading the board we are all thinking the worst. I saw the surgeon 2 weeks ago and I am waiting to see what kinda insurance dance we are going to have to do. I have BCBS of CA.
This gives me hope. Be sure and let us know when your surgery date is. One step closer to the other side!
Take care,
Kathy
No, actually, I am farther away than you!. My medical group is Family Medical Network... and my PCP is located downtown, as I work in the Loop and it's easier to make an appointment and get back to work without much travel. My PCP called BCBS to find out what surgeon to use, and that's how I ended up with Dr. Vitello at UIC. He's nice enough, not a humorous person (very serious)... but then, I am not interested in getting a new best friend out of the deal... just a competent surgeon. So it's ok. He's pretty good about returning phonecalls and emails, so that's a plus. But he is not close.... UIC is over by Stroeger (Cook County Hospital and Rush Presbyterian). Thank goodness for the "EL".
