Has anyone else had problems with BTC? I had my consult almost 3 weeks ago and they have yet to send out my insurance information... Not only that I am hearing alot of bad things about them, such as bad aftercare and them being a "chop shop" of sorts. I have made a consult with a different surgeon in my area who comes highly recommended. I saw Dr. Boe @ BTC and was impressed with him but I feel his office is slacking quite a bit. Their program seems pretty cookie cutter and I get the impression that it's a "drive through" type surgical program. When I spoke to the counselor there she read me a script that seemed to rehearsed and was spoken SO quickly I barely understood her. Not only that, I want LAP surgery and they are discouraging me from that when I have been told by others that LAP can be done on people twice my size... the reason they discourage it is because THEY DON'T DO IT! I'm so frustrated anyone have a similar experience

Nicki, I'm speaking of the gastric bypass done laproscopically versus open. Thanks so much for your response and I wish you much success! ~Jenn

Jennifer - when I was doing my research, I never heard good things about BTC and I also heard they don't do LAP and I felt I was a good candidate and I didn't want to have a 10 inch scar across my stomach if I didn't have to. I found a GREAT program and doctor close to home (Evergreen Park, IL) and I couldn't be happier. I've included a link to their site, and if you wanted to talk to the surgical nurse (Tony Romeo) he is just AWESOME when it comes to responding to questions and I could never speak more highly of Dr. Cahill or Tony or Tiffany or ANY of the support staff. The whole team is awesome. http://www.midwestbariatric.com/index.html The next support group is July 7th if your interested in coming out. I would be more then happy to meet up with you and help you feel the program out. Good luck - Peggy -92lbs

Jennifer~ Well I guess I don't post enough, because I only have good things to say about BTC. I had my surgery 6/06/03 and I am down over 140 lbs. It was a wonderful experience they have been very helpful and supportive through the entire process. The hospital stay was exceptional, remember this is all this hospital does, so you get very specialized care. I have heard others complain about how long it takes to get your packet sent to the insurance company, but they specialize based on your insurance companies requirements so this can take time. When I was researching surgeons and hospitals, I went all over St. Louis, and interviewed, and I was very impressed with Dr. Vaughn and BTC as a whole. My biggest concern was the hospital stay and after care, BTC by far had the best plan. I am member of a local support group, and I hear a lot of complaints about the after care of other surgeons. All of the people that are in the support group that have had there surgery at BTC only have good things to say. Hugz & Good Luck Kimberly

Jennifer - I went to BTC and I do agree that they do numerous surgeries there. But I highly recommend them. I had Dr. Vaughn, and he was great. I also met Dr. Boe and felt he was nice as well. I had a problem (major mood swings) and my family called the doctor's office within 24 hours his office called, and the Doctor called later that day. My dad who is super picky was impressed. I weighed 372 when I went into surgery, and was told elsewhere that they only do LAP for people who need to lose 150 or less. So I did open. But you need to go where you feel comfortable. Good luck. How much or how little you have to lose has no bearing on lap or open.
