DR's Consult Disappointment
Ok MR. SMARTY PANTS!!!!! Actually Jeff i was going to send you a note to tell you that you are the man and that you we're right, the problem is Michelle and I are on Illinois Public Aid and few doctors up your way will accept it or accept us as patients because we live so far away.... So if you hear of any that do let us know baby!!!!! Dont be holdin our on us! And I read your profile your lucky you get to pick out your own surgical crew!!! Good luck with your surgery make sure you keep us all up todate!
Debby
i had a hiatal hernia and schatzky's ring and my surgeon did the surgery. he fixed the hernia and kind of dilated the ring. i'm doing fine. and the band is stitched to the outside of the stomach to prevent slipping. deb, i also suggest you call dr. horgan at u of i hospital. he's a pioneer with this surgery and i think they do take medicaid at the hospital. and the fact that he said something to you about another patient....VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!! actually, it's against the law!!! federal law. and..and...my brother who had lapband by dr. horgan, said soda is not forbidden it is just not a good idea because it fills you up too fast. it won't kill ya, but it can make you uncomfortable. i've had sips of diet coke since surgery. i didn't get filled up or bloated or uncomfortable, but it was just a sip or 2. funny thing is, it tasted weird. haven't had any since. i do have some tonic in my vodka tho and that doesn't bother me. i don't drink often but when i do, a little tonic didn't hurt. oh and the thing about being a bad candidate cause you graze, that's total bullchit. for god sakes, you are banded. you can't eat a lot and you have to get in enough calories/protein somehow. i graze during the day. my choices are mainly protein tho. no garbage. i don't like the sound of this surgeon. if your surgeon isn't supportive of you, that's just wrong.
It will only fail if you think it will fail, not the surgeon. And he is doing it because he is in this for the money. Sure there may be some calling and interest in helping people that makes someone go into the medical field, but it is still the way they earn their money. Especially now adays when the WLS field is getting real competative. And if he has to do it again, that means more money.
I am usually not this cynical, but sometimes.
Debbie,
I'm not from your area, but I'm new to the site and like to browse. I've been doing research on Barix Clinics (granted the in AZ), but they are having a free seminar coming up in your area..we'll Chicago, IL. And you seem to be having trouble with surgeons so I thought you might be interested in going. This way you could get some of those questions answered before you went to a consult. And, my favorite part, you get to meet the surgeons, dieticians, and patient counselor (someone who has had the surgery). Anyways. I really like what I find about bArix. I just found out they used to be called bariatric Treatment center. oh, i went to www.barixseminar.com to register for seat and that's where I saw that they have dates and times all over the country and i'm trying to pass on the information to others.
best of luck
