Friday Roll Call
Hi everyone!
We went out to breakfast to visit a favorite waitress but she wasn't working today Oh well. Now we are at the store early doing all the little things that are necessary. Tonight we'll go out to dinner. we have been pretty good about not calling for take out after work but actually cooking. Last night I made roasted okra (spray with olive oil and garlic salt and roast at 400 for 15 min) Yummy, easy, fast and not fried.
Happy Friday!

Hello.... I am so worn out...We went to Brookfield zoo, and it kicked all of our butts...LOL Everyone is still sleeping. I am so excited...
I got my Surgery date...August 29th!!! YIKES that came fast. SOOOOO I stated my liquid diet today, and my wonderful pre-op testing is Wed 8/20. This snuck up on me.. I have so much to do before surgery....organize my bedroom and closet, and the kitchen cabinets.. I guess it will be good to stay busy to keep my mind off preop diet!
Carla-I hope your pup is doing alright! I used to work for Banfield for 7yrs. Hope all goes well. !
Got to run and do errands... be back later tonight!.
Hugs jess
TGIF,
I am off to run errands too.
We seen the kids production of Seussical Jr. last night. It is always a treat to watch so many talented kids preforming. Next month it will be Dial M for Murder.
Tonight is the David Cook concert. I as so happy that Hubert will go with me to all these things. We have season tickets to Englelane Community Players, ans also to the Starve Rock Area Concert Series. For a bit over $300 a year, we can go to 6 plays and 5 concerts. That breaks down to about $27 a person per show. Ya can't get that in the Chicago area.
Jessica, FYI, don't overpack to go to hospital. Just take your Ipod or laptop, a book, and personal care products. And your phone. Anything else you need will be provided. Good Luck, and we will be thinking og you.
Hugs,
Hello Everyone
Yeah it's Friday!!!! It was a pretty good week though.
Yesterday I had a nice long walk in the forest preserve. There is a short walk for 5.5 miles and a long walk for 13 miles. I took the shorter walk but I think one of these days when I don't have any plans for dinner (meaning I don't have to make dinner) I want to take the longer walk. It will be nice and refreshing.
Today after work I am going into the city and seeing some kind of Shakespeare improv theater. We are going to place called The Half Shell for dinner first. That's it for me. Tomorrow I will be at the air water show in Chicago. I will be at some place that has VIP seating so I don't have to mingle with the common folk...hahaha. So that is my next two days in a nut shell.
I agree with Lisa. I really did over pack for the hospital. I stayed over night and I didn't need much of anything I brought because they provided everything. And I didn't read or mess with a laptop because I was too busy walking the halls and when I wasn't doing that I was in a daze because I just had surgery. I didn't feel much like reading or messing with a laptop. I was resting up for the next hallway lap. I mean you don't sleep well in the hospital because they wake you up every hour for stuff. So you are constanly trying to catch a nap. If I did it again I just would bring my phone, my robe and return clothes and toiletries. Nothing else.
Anyways...back to work all. Have a good day.
Well, I got through my day even with "learning" more about payroll. Time clocks especially electronic time clocks suck. If an employee goes over their scheduled shift by more (befoe or after) than 7 minutes the times need to be adjusted. Then you have this rule for this union and not for the other union or hirebacks or comp time or sick time . . .
I have been so tired this last week due to the fact that I had a "mini" bowel obstruction. I spent most of Tuesday afternoon and evening - work and home in pain. My belly still hurts. I refused to go to the hospital because I know that they would have "incarcerated" me for a few days. But the good word is that all "systems" are working and not plugged up.
Connie, never had fried or baked okra. Please share the recipe.
Jess, the liquid diet stinks for the first 2-3 days and then it gets easier. I found that boxed chicken stock (not broth) has a more robust flavor. I echo what Lisa and Crystal said about over packing. If you take electronic devices with make sure you have your charging units and many times (I have been hospitalized a lot) I will take a 6-9' extention cord.
Crystal, we used to go down for the show but we cannot stand the crowds anymore. Be sure to take or buy water if you are in the direct sun. Dave went down today to watch the rehearsal. He was in Olive Park right by Oak St Beach. Look up the history on Olive Park and who it was named after . . .
Lisa, we enjoy being supporters of our local theater group also. Our tickets sometimes are as low as $7. We recently became members of Cantigny and that afords us free entrance, discounts for events (that you pay for), shop and restaurants and member only invites through out the year. All we need to do is buy gas to drive the 30 mile round trip.
