Twisted intestines.

HI - Haven't checked in to OH in a while.  Hope all are doing great.  Things have been going great with me.  This January - it will be 5 years since my gastric bypass.  Very happy with my decision to have surgery!!  Won't ever look back!!

A friend who had gastric bypass about 2 years ago, recently had a situation with her intestines.  They started to twist and she had to have a procedure to correct this issue. I know that this is rare and all the surgeons have done whatever they need to do at the time of the initial surgery to mitigate this issue as much as possible.  To say this freaked me out....is putting it mildly.

I guess, I am just wondering who out there has had this issue and more importantly, who has not had any complications.  To date, I have not had any complications (knock on wood - knock -knock). I am not neurotic but I also don't want to be concerned with every slight discomfort.

Anyone else have any words of advice?

Thanks and Enjoy your weekend!!

Sorry that you are worried. This is a rare complication. I suggest you call your doc and ask how often this happens and what the symptoms are. I know this is very painful; I think if it happened you'd be calling a doc anyway.

Thanks!!  I am not feeling any pain...but now just am nervous.  I think that I will make the call on Monday - just to see what my doctor has to say!!

Thanks!!!!

Well, anyone that has had an abdominal surgery can have issues with the intestinal tract not just WLS. The surgery could have been years ago like mine were and if any of them were open, like mine were then the chances go up. C-section, gall bladder, appendix, hernia, exploratory to name a few can cause problems or an open WLS. The chances are made minimal with lap surgeries.Believe me you will know when the bowel twists or you have a bowel obstruction . . . good thing the doors and windows were closed when I had two of them last year. It hurts and you just do not say a polite "ouch" you are doubled over in pain and screaming.

Thanks Christine!!  I once again appreciate your information!  So sorry that you had to go through that twice!!  UGH!!!  Like I said, all has been great for me so far....and I kind of freaked out a bit.

Have a great one and thank you again!!
