Good evening,

Welcome back from being M.I.A..

The way it sounds that you had your hand full and been very busy. Two worlds indeed, I know what thats like. I bet. Sounds like you had a good time over the last few days..

Hope youhad a good time at the bonfire.

Wow! You're one busy person, Have a good time in Rockford.

:-) ...I did check out there site and it's cool, I have donated to them a few times already. I'm looking forward to do a March of Dimes walk. Awesome. I even donate to the Salvation Arm. I even donated a food pantry when Jewel-Osco does a drive. I donate when I can. I use to donate blood to LifeSource until I found out that I have minor anemia, that's one thing I miss doing.

Thank you, you too have a lovely evening.

Yes, I miss being able to donate blood.  They told me that after my RNY, it would not be advisable.  I had given over 5 gallons.

I DID find this really wonderful iron that is easily absorbed, and after one iron infusion (that they said I would need 2-3 per year), with this and Vitamin C, my iron levels have been stellar.  I will be happy to share this.  Actually, the last iron levels were off the charts (high) and I needed to cut back some.

By the way......"minor anemia" in a gastric bypass patient is NOT good.  ALL blood levels should be between the middle to high range.  "Minor anemia" can be dangerous for us.  Especially with your upcoming surgeries..........

Wow. You too? Sorr to hear.     :-(

You have? Really? Two to three per year, my doctor told me to take Naure Made Iron 65 mg Equivalent to 325 mg Ferrous Sulfate (at first I was taking one table a day for a while and my doctor told me to take two tablets a day), I also take a chewable vitamin C 500 mg table with the iron tables. Wow! Off the charts on the high side, good idea to cut back. Thank you for sharing.

Really? I didn't know that. My iron levels are about with-in 1 to 3 points below normal. The next time I see my doctor is Oct. 7th and I'll ask him when is my next blood work done to check my iron levels. I'll ask my doctors about that next time when I see them at the hospital let alone when I'm around the hospital next or so. So far the surgeries that I had since my weight loss surgery I hadn't had a problem with my iron besides it being minor anemia, I guess I'm lucky on that.

Thank you.

Jason.

You want them to check your Ferritin levels in addition to the CBC.  Ferritin is the storage of iron in the blood and a good number is around 100.

I take Thompson Ideal Iron, 50 mg.  Two per day with 500 mg chewable Vitamin C.  This is Ferrous FUMERATE which is much easier absorbed.  The other trick is to make sure you don't take you iron anywhere near your calcium....if you take them together neither will be absorbed.

As a matter of fact, it is BEST to take your Iron and C at least 3 hours away from any other vitamins.  I actually take them when I wake up in the middle of the night for the bathroom.  Good luck!

I get my blod work done once every 6 months, I have to ask my doctor when was my las blood work done and when the next one will be.

I take two tablets of the Nature Made Iron in the evening with the one chewable vitamin 500 mg in the evening too with the iron. I don't calcium tablets, but I do drink milk with my evening meds. and evening vitamins. The other vitamins that I take are "Flintstones Complete Chewable Tablets" (two chewables tablets in the evening) and I also take a Vitamin B-12 500 mcg (one tablet in the evening). Really? Why is that? Would you know?

Why three hours with the iron and vitamin C from othe vitamins? Thank you for the good luck. Good luck to you too.

Iron does not "play well with others", which is why we should take it at least 3 hours from everything else.

I have an RNY, so my issues with mal-absorbtion may be different.  I know that "Flintstones" is the worst for RNY.  I do Centrum Chewables, one in the morning and one at night.

Maybe check out this site, www.vitalady.com, she and her husband have both had RNY, but have learned a lot about what works and what does not.  I take most of her advise, but actually order my vitamins from www.vitacost.com, as they are less expensive.

Really? I ask my doctor about that when I see him on October 7th. I wonder why that is.

I wonder why the "Flintstones" is bad for NY. What I was told in pre-op and newly in post-op as far as vitamins goes is to take the "Flintstones" or paternity vitamins. Sorry to hear that the "Flintstones" vitamins are not good for you and your RNY.

I'll checkout the site that you put in your reply.

Thank you. Have a great evening.
