Abnormal pap smear???

My pap smear came back with abnormal cells.  I was able to talk briefly to the triage nurse.  I should hear shortly about what is going on about my medicine and if they want to see again.  But I was told over the phone about the pap smear.  I am sure one of you had a pap smear come back abnormal.  What does this mean?  The triage nurse said this could mean precancerous cells.  What!!!

If any of you had this happen what can I expect?  What kind of tests or procedures?  My mind is going a thousand miles a minute!!!

Amber has had this happen a couple of times.  They will probably fo another PAP and if that comes back the same, they may do a biopsy.  With her, the biopsy came back fine.  Then, since she had an abnormal reading, they wanted to do a PAP every six months for a couple of years.  After they all came back negative, she went back to once a year.  She has had clear tests for a while now.

Could it have been from the irritation of the ring?

I had this a few times as a young woman. Lots of checks but it never turned out to be anything like with Dawn's daughter. It's the kind of thing you don't want to mess with, though. Take a deep breath and try to let go of the worry.

Relax! I, and several friends have had abnormal pap smears come back. Every one of us went thru the same process and were ultimately fine. 

I got a call like you to come in. The did this cone thing (colposcopy)  where they have you get in the stirrups and the doc goes in and takes a few samples in a pie shape like a cone.....one sample at 12 o'clock, 3 o'clock , 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock,. It is not painful and I had some minor cramping afterwards and was fine. They send those samples to some lab. That's it. Then they watch you for a year. If those all come back normal you go back to annual paps. Please, don't worry, it is going to be fine.

As horrible and scary as this sounds, try to relax.  I have had several come back as abnormal.  It can mean anything from an infection on up.  With your recent problems, I would think it is from all that has been going on with your allergic reaction.  It may be a simple infection.  If they have to do a biopsy, then let them do a biopsy.  I  know this is really scary but until they have a chance to talk to you and explain and perhaps a need to do additional tests, please dont panic.  Our minds can take us places we really do not need to go to.  

It is quite normal to have an abnormal pap smear.  You are not the first and will not be the last.  So, deep breaths and try to relax.   Hugs.
