IL Surgeon
Hello fellow Illinois WLSers!! I have had my lapband since 2007. My original surgery was in Arizona. I moved back to my hometown a little over 2 years ago, and am in need of a revision. My band has slipped and the local doctor that was did my recent fill and identified the slip after an upper GI won't do any further treatment with me. He says he won't go in to repair someone else's work. I am left now with the option of returning to my AZ surgeon for the revision (love the doc, but not the travel expense) -- or, my preference would be to find a surgeon fairly close to me willing to remove my band and do a revision (possibly to a sleeve - still researching). Actually, my preference would be me move my AZ surgeon and his wife and baby to Central Illinois, but that's not likely to happen! LOL
Any recommendations for local surgeons in the Decatur/Champaign/Bloomington-Normal/Springfield area?
Sonja,
I hope you can find someone that is recommended. I live in the Chicagoland area and cant recommend anyone in central IL.
I know IL docs in general,do not like to do revisions done initially by other docs. I worked for doctors for 30 years & all the ones I worked for would not do any revisions if they did not do the original procedure. I dont know if it is the culture here or if the malpractice insurance classes the malpractice insurance companies make doctors take tells them not to. You might have to travel to a big teaching hospital. I know the doctors at Loyola and Northwestern would not do revisions. University of Chicago may do it.
Good luck and welcome home!
