Crystal,

I do believe I am a food addict too, and as I take care of my grands it is really hard, because I have to keep s snacks in the house for them, Maybe I am eating at night so no one see's me, I don't know, I am going to keep working on this, and I am happy to know I am not alone in this. thanks for the help, we need to stick together on this one.

Success begins with wise choices I make,I will not let noncompliance be my mistake, The surgery I had was to assist me in changes. My compliance is for a success long range, So I will think before I decide to cheat. Remember the goals I want to meet. For this surgery is not something I was force to do It was what I wanted for a healthy life!

try keeping snacks for the grands that are healthy or ones you don't care for.  That's easy for me, because I'm so picky.  Like last year for Halloween I bought stuff I don't like...Butterfingers, sour candy...that kind of thing.  Or chips you don't like.  Like I hate cheetos and doritos or flavored chips (like BBQ chips).  Those wouldn't tempt me.  Try stocking things that you wouldn't like...of course if you like everything that would be a problem.  But for me I like very little.  That is just something I did when my daughter would visit and I wouldn't be tempted.

Janet,

I have the same problem.  I cannot control myself either.  I need to do what Crystal does but psychologically I cannot because I also have a panic mode if I do not have food in the house.  (part of mine stems from my mother literally starving me as a baby) Talk about 2 opposite problems!  I try to keep healthy snacks and not buy the junk food.  I do not buy the potato chips, crackers, candy, high fat foods etc.  But I make sure I have plenty of sugar free popcicles and dill pickles.  Both help me keep my cravings in check.  But there are still days.    That is why I have had a regain and am thinking of a revision.  But then I think if I cant control it now, how will I control it with a revision.

I have tried to find a psychologist or therapist that specializes in this area but there are none within a driveable distance.  I am not sure where to turn either.  This is such a hard area.  I wish OH would offer some help.

I realize this does not answer your question, but it may help you realize you are not alone.

I have the same problem. I eat great all day and then in the evening I start to feen for sweets. I think Connie may be right. It could be a lack of protein. Perhaps instead of drinking your shakes during the day you should save one for the evening. I think I may start to have a shake in the evening and see how that works for me. I use Premier ready made chocolate shakes. I get them at Costco.

You also could be dehydrated. If you are not drinking enough during the day, thirst can mimic hunger. Drink a glass of water and wait 20 minutes. You may find you arent really hungry. I sip green tea and it works for me.

Last but not least, there is the damned "head hunger". For that issue, the only thing that works is making the decision before it happens that you will not succumb or having a back up ready that is low calorie. For me it is an apple or grapefruit.

I'm so glad you posted this since some of us seem to have a measure of this issue.

Hugs,

Sharon
