Saturday Roll Call
I am behind in post. OH was too slow coming up yesterday so I shut 'er down and left.
Monday I woke up with a tooth hurting like food impaction and Monday night I asked Cheryl if she had slugged me while I slept. Tuesday it was worse. Wednesday I got Walgreens liquid stop pain which gave a little relief. Thursday morning had an appointment with surgeon at Northwestern. That was so hard to get I did not want to reschedule. I was in so much pain I could not remember all of my meds or who did my RNY. It was all in my chart anyway. The surgeon said he did normal gastric stuff and weight loss surgeries but my hernias are complex so he refered me to a plastic surgeon *****builds abdominal walls. Went up stairs and made the appointment with them. Back out to the bus stop I called my dentist and they saw me and pulled my tooth and started me on antibiotics. Feeling better yesterday so I went to an orientation and Ubuntu navigation class at FreeGeek.
Just hanging out this morning though I will likely listen to some lectures from Rice when Cheryl gets up. Then there is an OpenHack at FreeGeek this afternoon.
Dear Favorite Geek and other Peeps,
Happy March! How did I miss mentioning that yesterday?
Yesterday, it was nippy but I was able to finish my 50 inspections in 9 hours. I had 12 walk-aways! I rarely have one. That is when the home-owner has walked away and the house is abandoned. The inspection goes from taking 2 pics to 12 pics including the roof.......Ugh I was in Joliet yesterday for the first time doing this job. It made me sad to see so many homes that were under 100K abandoned. I am used to the half a million dollar homes being foreclosed on, but to see this made me so sad for the middle class. Where are these families going?
Randy, tooth-pain is one of the worst. I dont know how you could handle that for so long. I've learned you have to stay ahead of the pain and just keep taking the advil every 6 hours until the dental appointment.
I love Northwestern, but I love surgeons who can do it all without sending you to 10 different doctors because that's not their expertise because it's a university setting and they dont have to. I dont know your specifics but my surgeon and his partner are abdominal surgeons and probably could fix you and do a revision if that is what you need. My bariatric surgeon did my gall bladder years ago before my sleeve and he did my husbands hernia 5 years ago. It was why I went to him ultimately to do the sleeve. It also did not hurt that my sister was his scrub nurse at Macneal and told me he is as skilled as she has ever seen. She previosly had worked with him at Loyola but also worked at UIC and Northwestern before moving to a community hospital setting. I hope you get a good surgeon. Northwestern has plenty of them.
We went for fish last night and after a 2 hour wait after we ordered we were told they had run out of fish. I said ok what can we order instead and they told us nothing...everything was gone!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. If I had never been there before I would have been like, "i aint never coming here again", but it's so good i understood. Since we are regulars they gave us a certificate for a free meal when we come next time. I am going to wait until after Lent. Joliet is 95% catholic and I know how the catholics love their fish during lent. We came home and I grilled burgers.
Today I am working on our budget for our Dave Ramsey class. . I have put it off for a week. I cannt put it off any longer.
Have a great day day Peeps!
Hugs,
Sharon
Sharon-
I find it sad that so many middle class people have lost their houses too. I also find it weird and I am happy about it...but I don't know anyone personally that lost their house. I know someone that almost lost their house but they were able to work something out with the bank. I am glad that I never bought a house...now. I know there was a time I was bummed I didn't own a home. Now I am glad. The biggest problem I see among my friends ....so many people I know are underwater. My old boss is 80K underwater...she owes 80K more than her house is now worth!!!! OMG!!!
I told my daughter until things turn around it's not worth buying. the number one reason to buy back when real estate was good...was appreciation of the property. You would buy a house and 10 years later it was worth 20-50% more than when you bought it for. It was a good investment. Not anymore. So unless it's a big dream to own a home...then just rent. People now tell me how smart I am for renting...the very same people who would tell me to buy all of the time...go figure.
Hello everyone
Well the several days of almost no sleep and not feeling any fatigue finally caught up to me last night. I crashed last night at about 8...I didn't even workout. The tirednes**** me like a brick wall right when I got home to eat dinner. It was like the minute I let myself relax... BOOM I was ready to sleep. My eyes could barely stay open. I thought I will eat dinner...let it settle for an hour and workout..but I fell asleep on the sofa. Oh well stuff happens. Obviously I needed it. I woke up at 1 am and went into the bedroom and fell back to sleep.
I have nothing planned this whole weekend. I have cleaning to do around the house, laundry and working out to do. That's it...for the whole weekend. I think I will finally get my photos together. I have to get Amanda's wedding photos into the wedding album. I also want to start a Peace Corp album. I have albums for different periods in Amanda's life...like high school, baby, childhood. I know it's popular to keep photos digital...but I am traditional and I like to get mine printed and in albums. Plus I have known 2 people that have lost pictures because their computer crashed. And another girl that kept her photos on an external hard drive...well that external hard drive was stolen...along with all of her memories!!! I have yet to know a thief that will to break into your house and bother with photo albums...hahaha!!! Which is what I try to tell my friends...but they don't listen. I also go the extra step of getting the photos put on a CD ...and keeping the disc in my fire proof safe...because if there is a fire...I still have my photos!!!! My paranoia knows no bounds...
Randy- do your hernias hurt you or keep you from doing activity? It sounds like they are quite bad. I only ask because I had a bad hernia and didn't even know it. I hope you get them take care of quickly.
I see that next weekend could be nice outside...I hope the forecast doesn't change.
Well I have to get going with my day of nothingness...have a good Saturday...Bye
Happy Saturday,
Day by day our trip to Vegas for our daughter Annette's wedding is getting closer. We leave on the 24th. That is only 22 days away.
Randy, i am sorry that you have had such a painful week. My teet were so bad I finally had them all pulled and got dentures. This was back in the 90's. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. My dentist at the time said it was the right decision, they were totally bad. Not from not taking care of them, I did. The teeth themselves were bad.
Sharon, I think it takes guts to do your job. One thing I have learned from working with low income people is not to bring the job home. It didn't take me to long to harden up .A lot of the homes you are working with, were bought by people who couldn't afford them. As landlords, I am always amazed when we have openings, and people will try to rent them, knowing that the rent is way over what they bring home.
No real plans for this weekend. What are you doing?
Hugs,
LISA
Lisa- Oh I completely agree with people trying to afford housing they know they can't afford. It's a recipe for disaster. Just one unforeseen problem....like a car repair and they can't pay their rent!!! And it's a domino effect from there. That's why I like to keep things affordable for me. I would have loved to have a 2 bedroom apartment...but it would have been a big stretch...and I don't like that. So I had to settle for less. And some people just don't want to settle...
By the way...my Ex was a car salesman...and people did the same thing with cars too. Buy cars they know they can't afford...let alone the insurance!!!
Crystal, my daughter in Yorkville is upside down to. They paid 150 for thier townhouse, and the one across the street sold for 50.
The advantages of home ownership verses renting are great. If you are buying within your means. The fact that eventually you will own it outright is the main one. And with interest rates under 4%...
you needed the rest last night. I do that sometimes too, only not that early.
