Has Anyone Had Dr. Lalit Puri, MD (Orthopaedics)?
Hello Everyone,
I am new to the Illinois Forum and somewhat lurking around a tiny bit off & on for a while now, but I have been on this site for almost three (3) years now. I am just wondering if anyone had knee surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital by a doctor by the name of Dr. Lalit Puri, MD (Orthopaedics)? If so, How is he? Is he any good? How good is he? What do you think about Him & his Team? Can anyone tell me anything about him like "pros" & "cons" and the same about his team? Is their anything I should know about him and his team? The reason I'm asking all these questions is because I do have a surgery date on my left knee (full replacement) with Dr. Lalit Puri, MD on April 9, 2013 which is six (6) weeks from today. As time get closer to my surgery the more I'm getting nervous. Is this normal to feel this way about a full knee replacement? Once I recover from my left knee surgery, I'll have knee surgery on my right knee (also a full replacement). Overall, Are you "or" are you not satisfied with Dr. Lalit Puri, MD? How would you rate Him & his team? I want to have that peace of mind in knowing what I am dealing with.
Thank you in advance.
I am sorry for the long post.

HI Watson,
I have never heard of this doc. I know 2 things are very important when you have this surgery:
one; you have it done at a progressive /university hospital ----check
and two, the physical therapy afterwards is as important as the surgery .It sounds like you are in the right place.
He got great reviews on an independent rating site: http://www.ucomparehealthcare.com/drs/lalit_puri/reviews.html
He looks good on paper educationally and professionally. It sounds like you made a good sound choice. How did you find him?
Best,
Sharon
Hi Phatchick,
So true on the two things that are very important when a person has knee surgery.
I'll check out the link that you have provided in your reply to my post. Thank you. I talked to people in the hospital that he is in and heard good things about him there. I wanted to find out from other people about him from this website too about this knee surgeon.
I think I made a good sound choice about this doctor. I found out about him from other doctors at the hospital that I had my weight loss surgery at and from a friend that had him.
Thank you Sharon for your input/info and the time for your time in answering to my post.

Hello
I have had both of my knees replaced by an orthopedic doctor in Peru Ill. I know that he is in the top 5% of Illinois Doctors rated by the Joint Replacement committees that ranks surgeons by state and national basis. This is also tied in with hospital accreditations. So there is a rating system out there. I had a very positive experience with mine but then I had one of the best surgeons in the nation. After I had my right knee done, asked at my 3 week appointment when I could have my left knee done. The pain difference was amazing! I had been bone on bone for 8 years. Besides being chicken, I wanted to wait until I was older so I would not have to do it multiple times. I wish now I had done it earlier. It is VERY important that you do ALL of the physical therapy so make sure your doctor is on line with physical therapy post surgery. The more you work that knee the better it will function. Good Luck!

I know I need both of my knees needs to be replaced starting with my left knee then my right knee. I am looking forward in having my knees done, but at the same time I'm nervous at the same time. I know that my surgeon is on the internet. I am going to do my very best in my recovery from my upcoming knee surgery and the same thing with my other knee when it's time to do that one. I am going to follow what my physical therapy has me to do. True on the more you work your knee the better the function. Sorry that you waited in having your knees down at a later time, but at least you had them done. My knee cartilage is getting thin on me. I want to get my knees worked on before it get to the point that it's bone on bone.
Thank you for your input/info Nancy G..

Dear Watson:
First, congratulations on your level of motivation, unbridled candor and numerous successes along the way. Three cheers! Bravo! Kudos...and thanks!
I am now confronted with the prospect of possible bilateral total knee replacement surgery and would welcome your advice. Maybe a Dos & Dont's "Top 10 List," like the ones that made David Letterman famous?!
Also, I would welcome you sharing the good, bad and ugly if your experiences with Dr. Puri, because he is in practice here in Chicago where I live.
again, congratulations and many thanks!
