Friday Roll Call
Hello everyone
Well we got the snow...at least it's Friday. And I only have to drive a mile. The plows were plowing the parking lot at 2am. I thought that was a little ridiculous. They didn't wake me up...I was already up but I could see if someone was a light sleeper it would wake them up. It looks like we got 2, maybe 3 inches of snow. I hate snow...any snow is too much snow. It makes life difficult and messy. But 2-3 inches is still very drivable.
My friend Monica came precariously close to losing her job yesterday. I don't know what has been going on with her. She hasn't been in to work since last Friday. She emailed her boss Friday. Then Monday nothing...her boss tried to call her and found out that she changed her number. I was shocked. I had texted her a couple of times and didn't get an answer...well that's why. Tuesday, came and went and we heard nothing. We were all really worried. Then I remembered that I was Facebook friends with her sister. So I sent her sister a message saying we haven't heard from Monica and we were really worried about her. Is she all right? Finally yesterday her boss said she sent her an email that said if she didn't call and send her a doctor's note she was going to lose her job!!!! Monica called. Monica is my friend, but who does that??? Who takes off from work and doesn't call??? And thinks it's OK and she's not going to lose her job? I guess I have a different set of standards I live by...
Well today I am going to work and working out for sure. I am pretty sure that by the time I am out of work the road will be clear and I will head out over to Target and Chipotle. What are you guys up to today???
Time to finish getting ready...be careful if your driving....see ya later
People with sleep disorders or who are medicated, self or doctor do that.
My complaint yesterday was not about salaries it was about the lack of ability to easily apply to or even find out that there is a job with Cook County that I am qualified to do. That gives relatives and friends an inside chance because someone in the department can pass on the specific title and what to falsify on an application. Those folks seem to never get caught but we all know they exist because we have had to deal with them. I have even had people come to tutorials I was attending to learn how to do their jobs that they were supposedly already proficient in.
Well I got to my appointment yesterday just fine but then had to take a bus west to Central and NW highway. Luckily that one took me right by the place I get my brisket. Then I caught a Pace Bus and forked out a buck and six bits. That got me to the Blue line and easily down to Belmont where there is a Five Below and an Aldi across the street. I found a cheap medium size back pack and a thermal lunch bag for the brisket and bacon I had bought but really that Cheryl wants for her commute. She really wants one of the back packs with a bunch of compartments. I have not found one under fifty bucks though. The new bags were also great for the groceries. I got home with time left on my day pass from going to NW with Cheryl yesterday.
I made gumbo and soup as well as starting the brisket soaking in Woody's to cook today.
I think I will work on my memory game today. I found out the program I am writing games on does not work on IE. I went to a hack night though and another participant showed me a library that may work. That program is the one the professors wrote and want us to use.
Good Morning,
Well, we certainly didn't get as much snow as was predicted. I think we got about about 1.5 inches out of it. If that. Not enough to get the snowblower out for.
Randy, it seems to me that as many buses as you take to get anywhere, you should of kept your car.
Crystal, I think we all know someone like that. Me, if I am 5 min. late, I think i will get fired.
Hubert is already outside sweeping off the sidewalk and cars. We may go out for dinner tonight, not sure at this time. No other plans for this weekend yet.
Have a safe day.
Hugs,
LISA
Randy, I applaud you and Cheryl for living the lifestyle that you are with taking public transportation, using the financial resources that the Father has entrusted to you in a God honoring way and not leaving a carbon footprint of the pollution that a car puts out. Man, the cost of gas in Cook Co is high plus the parking issues, higher insurance rates due to a zip code . . . I am sure you could add to the list. Americans are so in love with their vehicles that our culture has built a lifestyle around just having a car. Our towns keep building out and out where you cannot walk to local merchants anymore, even small town IL is a victim of that (Wally World has caused a lot of that). I would love to get rid of our only car but it is what it is with where we live for us to get food at the grocery store or for us to get to church, me get to work when the weather is life threatening or I have to go to a work meeting. You are getting healthier by walking where you need to go. To volunteer, go to church, shop and entertainment. You have access to Zip Cars when you need a vehicle for any distance that is outside of your neighborhood.
Keep up the good work with your weight and lifestyle changes!

Lisa- I'm like you. I was at my one job for 9 years and I wasn't late once. I admit I am a bit of an anal freak when it comes to getting somewhere on time. When ever I would say...OMG I'm going to be late!!! Amanda would always say "what late for being early!!!" ....and you know what she was right!!! She knows me so well!!!! hahahaha
TGIF Peeps!
What a crazy week.
To all those people who complained we never got snow and wanted some....well you got your wish! Who was that anyway???? Well, my daughter for one. Ugh!
Finally, Drew got his sentence. I am happy he is finally going away. His 10 minutes of "fame" went on for far too long.
Crystal, my darling, I agree with Randy. It sounds like your friend is in trouble. Does she have a drug/alcohol/man problem? I've managed people for years and that is always the basis of unusual/unreasonable behavior.
I had a scare the other night....my hubby called me from his routine doctor's appointment to inform me he is being sent to the ER. I met him there and was surprised to learn his sugar was 565. He is a diabetic and for years has been on meds.
My heart hurts for him, because he is in denial. He is not radically bad, but sometimes he just forgets to take his meds! I know this sounds crazy but I wish he were obese and could have the surgery. But he is not. He is 210 lbs and is 6' tall. His grandma died with no legs in a coma from this disease. His dad has had 2 strokes and is on dialysis from this disease. I dont get how this man who is highly educated does not get that his future is not rosy if he continues to ignore the warning signs. I know he was a little embarrassed because about 10 people from our church came to sit with us when they heard he was at Silver Cross. It was a comfort to have them there with me all night, but he was ashamed of himself........so for the last 2 days he has been vigilant about his diet. Let's see how long this lasts.
I was surprised to learn that unemployment makes you sit down in front of a worker and they then dial up the last 10 places you put down for job searches. If nobody can substantiate receiving your resume...YOU GET KICKED OFF UNEMPLOYMENT! I couldn't believe it. I still have to recertify every week since I work so sporadically. I had to go down there earlier this week and bring my job searches. Imagine my surprise when I saw this happen. Every person she called did not answer the phone. (big surprise). So now I have to wait to hear from them via letter, if they get a call back substantiating my search. She said even if nobody calls her back, it is up to a supervisor to decide if I can continue on the program. THAT IS CRAZY!
Well, I am done ranting this day.........have a great day everyone. Be safe!

Sharon, The Illinois unemployment system is rotten. I really feel that they think we are taking their personal money. They will do everything in their power for you to get discouraged and drop your claim.
LISA
Sharon- I feel for you. I know how it feels to have a loved one not take diabetes seriously or or not take their doctor's instructions seriously. I took care of my grandma for 8 years. She had 3 diabetic strokes in that time. Each one worse than the next...each one disabling her more and more. Each time she lost a little more of her personality and her thinking functions (the doctors said parts of brain had atrophied). She would come up with wild ideas and think they were real. Like once she swore that there was a tunnel that connected her house to the church basement and she went there and they were having orgies and doing drugs!!!! She was thought it was so real I had to stop her from calling the pastor to "give him a piece of her mind"...can you imagine!!!! She was a different person. She wasn't bad or mean. She was actually silly...but she wasn't herself...and I missed my old grandma. She could barely walk. She could barely feed herself or dress herself. She had to wear a diaper. In the end she was like a toddler. I finally had to face the cold hard truth, that her care was now beyond what I could handle and had to put her in a home.
And this all started because she refused to take care of herself!!! She kept eating the candy and the cake!!! And skipping the shots!!! We didn;t know till it was too late. She was hiding it from us.
In the meantime I also had to deal with my grandpa who had full on dementia...and would call me up in the middle of the night to yell at me because- HE KNOWS I STOLE HIS TOE NAIL CLIPPERS!!!! Now see he did get mean...I missed the old him too.
If you ever need someone to vent to or a shoulder to cry on...I'm here...I know the pain and the anxiety and the feeling of wanting to just slap them in the face say "WTF is your problem...start taking care of yourself or I'm going to punch you in the face!!!" and there were a couple of selfish times I thought....why am I even here...if she doesn't care why should I???? UGH!!!
Crystal,
You are the biggest softie I know. What a girl you are to have cared for your grandma 8 years.
Thank goodness my hubby is seeing the chiro on Monday. Dr. Radcliffe will slap him into shape. He is a no-nonsense get your behind on the elipticle now kind of dude. I love that there is a glass wall between the chiro office and the gym. Grathell has agreed to a 3 month run on fitness to see where he will be health-wise at that time. It didnt hurt that our entire church has called texted or stopped by to fawn over him. He is very embarrassed. I say, "Good" HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHA
