Sunday Roll Call

Morning all you kids at heart .  Thought I would come out of hibernation. I have been busy with getting my steps in and my Dashboard says I am at 117% of my weekly steps this morning. I have my daily longer week-end walk to do here in a short while. In addition to walking I have been purging things in the house, rearranging the kitchen, organizing my jewelry and planning more necklaces to make as I will be a part of my SIL's holiday craft show again before Thanksgiving.

I finally found a toaster oven. Researched it on Consumer Reports at the library and found a brand I never heard of before called Breville. They are a company out of Australia. I paid a little more than I set out to ($150) but it has a lot of functions and takes up less counter space than my old one. The two models (little higher priced 4 & 6 slice) with CR were rated as VG or very good for all features and over the other four units that were tested. We looked at a few ovens at Target and they were pieces of junk (one of them had a broken & not there door and had been returned as you could see crumbs on the bottom) and also we only wanted a four slice unit and most on Amazon are six. They do sell four slice units but most of them were not rated very well by consumers or they had features we do not want like convection and broil. I never even use those features with my full size oven. This Breville has broil but I highly doubt I will use it even though it has a non stick surface on the inside. Oh and this one has quartz heating elements and not steel rods. This is for more even heating and toasting. I made some little mini quiches that we bought from GFS yesterday and they came out perfect with the time the box said to cook them to. Four of those last night and that was what we had for din din, just enough.

Dave had some base line testing done yesterday that the doc ordered. We had to go to Elgin for it. It is a company that sets up in a church or other place and it is called Life Source something or other. Medicare does not pay ($149) for it so it will be applied to next years taxes as a medical expense.

That is about it - gonna go get ready to walk when it gets a little lighter. The nature center does not open until sunrise.

What is happening in your world

Hi Everyone,

How did I miss Saturday??? It has been crazy busy lately for me.

I got up late (8am)  yesterday and my hubby and I just sat around and talked and had coffee. It was nice. We went out Friday nite with another couple and we were home by 8:30p........that is a clear sign we are all getting old. Steve, our friend was yawning and I was bleary eyed, so my hubby and Chris were, like. "oh brother, let's go home early". LOL

I got my hairs cut yesterday and on one side it is very short and other side is normal length. I have not decided if I like it yet. I wanted it all cut off, but my hairdresser was like " lets try this and see if you really want super short hair."  My husband made no comment....that means he doesnt like it. hahahahhahahaha

Christine, I was thinking of getting a toaster oven and getting rid of my microwave since they are harmful to our bodies. Thanks for doing the research.

Connie, today is supposed to be all day sunshine. I am so looking forward to that.

Dawn,  Todd loves you so much to have gotten out of his comfort zone to tell you his feelings. It sounds like he has a different love-language than yours. Boy is that common in marriages.

Lisa, Beef and noodles sounds really yummy, is that like stroganoff?

Nancy, Gizmo fooled you guys. I cringe when my husband asks me where a cat is. My first thought is , oh no, did they get out? It's a giant fear I have. In Lockport if the cat gets out and you call the non-emergency number to ask if anyone has called about a cat, they send a car out. I couldn't believe it when it happened to me. I was so embarrassed when an hour later the cat appeared. I had to call back. The policeman came by again and this time told me how happy he was that my cat was safe. Our tax dollars at work! But that is one of the things i love about living in a small town.

Crystal, I am a cuticle picker too. I go in spurts. I dont do it for months and then wham I have two painful fingers with boo-boos that throb for a day and a half.  For the dryness and the boo=boos I use coconut oil. I spread it on my hands before i go to bed after my bath. I actually spread it EVERYWHERE. I wont go into details, but I dry out like a fall leaf when i swim so it is my go-to for everything. I no longer buy any creams just use cheap coconut oil. It is also great for getting off makeup.

Also, based on FB it sounds like HOT-Guy is a decent man. You really must try a bit harder to get to know this man. He sounds like a keeper.

Today is church and our finance house group tonight. In between who knows?????

Have a lovely sunny day,

Sharon

Sharon, my feelings are that if a person eliminates all things that are "harmful" to them then they would have to live in a bubble. Good golly there are so many people that warm up their car before driving off. That is harmful to me just walking by (and others that live by as it gets into your air supply in the house) because it is adding pollution to the air and I am breathing it. To me it is a big waste of the resources that God has given us.

I am sorry Chris, i didn't see your post until after I posted mine. you have been a busy girl.

I do love it when I can find what I want. I have been known to take a couple of years to find anything.

Hugs, LISA

No problemo. That is why I keep two internet windows open on the website while typing and then refresh the other one before I post the roll call.

Good morning!

Another sunny day! Love it! We have a couple of friends who had surgery that we will visit today. I now really appreciate visitors since I was sick. Otherwise, not many plans for today. I've been looking for a used car for my son. There are a couple in the burbs that look promising but I'd rather get one here. If we find one we'll drive it to him and fly home. Hope this works out.

Did a lot of knitting yesterday and have more to finish today. also hoping for a nap. I just love to take a snuggly nap in my chair with a down comforter! this is one of the perks of being retired!

Have a great day!

Afternoon Everyone!

I think I missed yesterday.  I spent time grocery shopping and making calls to report that the lost cat had been found.  Today it was making rounds to take down the wanted posters that we had plastered everywhere!  Next time, I think we will wait a day before putting up posters.  Gizmo seems to be ok.  I dont know if he and Smokey had a fight or just needed to run away for some me time.  He seems to be back to his normal self.

Chris, I am glad you found a toaster over you like.  I like the sounds of a quartz heating element.  That sounds like it would be even cooking.  Enjoy!

Sharon, I am trying to picture a hair cut that is shorter on one side than the other.  I am like you, just cut it all short.

Connie, I agree, visitors can break up long hospital days.  Your friends will welcome your company.  Also naps are wonderful!

Lisa, I am glad you had a good visit with the kids.  It is always great when the younger generation actually participates in the conversation.  You get to enjoy them more.

Have a great day everyone.

It is a nice little oven. It has what I think they refer to as "smart technology" it has preset times built into it for the different settings like reheat for instance. I reheated Dave's fish and roasted veggies from dinner on Friday and it turned on with a 20 minute countdown and that was actually spot on. The food was evenly heated and up to the internal temp he wanted.
