Monday Roll Call
Hello everyone
It's definitely Winter out there...Brrrr!!! Bundle up and stay warm
Today is my busy Monday. After work I will be going to the gym and then the store to buy a new brush...because I can't find mine. I am thinking I threw it out on accident somehow. Because it's not here. I looked every where.
I did something new with the deicing of my car and it worked really well but you need some time. Our cars here were covered with a 1/2 an inch of ice and everyone was out there struggling to scrape the ice or running there cars forever. I went outside and "scored" the ice with the scrapper and sprayed the windows really good with the deicer. Then went and worked out and showered and got ready. I came out and the ice on my windshield was almost gone. I didn't have to do anything!!! Yeah!!!
I got my running around done yesterday in spite of the fact I had a migraine for a couple of hours. I knew that would happen because I was going to push myself to the next level working out (because my workouts are getting too easy). That always happens to me...that's why I waited till Sunday to do it. Oh well I guess it's something I have to deal with.
Well I got to get going...have a good day all...bye
Happy Brrrrrrr Monday,
It's so sunny and gorgeous when you look out the window of my office, but it is colder than Alaska out there. January has finally kicked our butts.
Yesterday was a good day. I ran into my daughter at Whole Foods and she hugged me tight and told me she missed me. She wants to get together and of course i am dying to do that. I hope it works out. She sent me a video of my grandbabies on FB and I was so happy. I think I have watched it like a 100 times.
I am not working today so I will clean my office this morning and then go to the gym mid-day. I am not losing weight like a typical bariatric patient and i think it may be because I am not eating enough. Or perhaps not eating the right things????
I eat like a bird, don't go near sugar, drink my water, and work out like a crazy lady but the weight has been stuck for 3 months. I am going down sizes in my clothes, especially my bottom half. I'm not complaining (yes I am) , but I would like to get into onederland by my one year surgiversary on 04/16. At this rate it aint gonna happen. I'd be happy if I lost a couple pounds a week.
It is especially hard on Mondays when i weigh and have to state my weight on the over 50 bmi forum. It is our weekly tradition and people who started the journey after me who weighed more than I did now weigh much less than I. I am thrilled for them....for me, not so much. I know losing 100 lbs in 6 months is a lot and I should be happy........
I did a metabolic typing test and it said I should eat dense high purine proteins like beef and organ meat (yuck). I'm a fowl eater. So, I am going to go get some steak and boil myself some beef and see how that goes. Hopefully it will work.
Well, I am off to begin my day.
Stay warm....and snuggle to stay warm. I am a big fan of snuggling to stay toasty.
Hugs,
Sharon
Sharon, Sharon, Sharon...I have had this conversation with so many people on this board. There is nothing wrong with what you are doing in fact you are doing awesome...great...wonderful. You are doing better than someone that is dropping weight rapidly. Here's why and you can even verify this with your doctor or trainer. You are building lots of muscle because of all the exercise you are doing. As we all know muscle weighs more than fat...so your scale won't move...BUT muscle has less volume than fat (one pound of fat takes up more space that one pound of muscle) so as you replace the fat with muscle you will go down in size but not see it on your scale. Now think of this....you at 150 lbs but no muscle tone all jiggly. OR You at 175 lbs. all toned and no jiggle. I would rather be the 175lbs.
Now there is one more thing to think about. All that muscle you are building is going to help you in the long run...why??? Because muscle is your calorie burning center of your body. Muscle drives your metabolism. More muscle better metabolism. That's why men have better metabolism. So as you are building all of this muscle mass you are also helping your metabolism. You will be able to eat more and not gain weight...yeah!!! This is why when I talk to people...especially women...about working out I always, always tell them to include weight training. Because of all of this muscle you are building you will be less likely to regain...like all of your peers that are loosing with diet alone...they are losing but they are losing muscle mass (less muscles less metabolism, regain will occur...but not with YOU!!!).
Now that I am rambling on and on...you can tell I have delved deep into the depths of researching and reading about the mechanics of working out. I hope you can see the fact that you are losing inches is way more significant than losing pounds. In fact I think you should journal your inches. On the 1st of every month I measure my chest, waist, hips and thighs. It's always gratifying to see an inch or two difference.
Now that said you do need to eat a bit more and not skip meals. You need to keep your blood sugar at a even keel....if you skip meals your blood sugar drops it sends signals to your body to store everything you will eat rather than burn it. I will eat at regular intervals during the day whether I'm hungry or not. Just putting something in my stomach gives my body something to feed on. My favorite work snack is almonds . It's easy and healthy and it helps your metabolism. Not eating bottoms out your metabolism. There have been studies that have shown that obese people are more likely to skip breakfast. I also eat before I workout...I always have a tbsp of peanut butter and 3-4 apple slices.
when I first started to exercise I inhaled books on exercise, working out, nutrition, vitamins, fitness, metabolism, the food industry....oh read so many books.
Good morning Crystal and the rest of Illinois!
I went to bed by 8 Friday and felt a tad better Saturday. Liv REALLY wanted to go shopping to spend her Christmas gift cards, so I took her. We had a wonderful day together and even found her Prom Dress. We had a nice talk on the way home. THEN......she went to a movie and coming home in the ice and snow, she spun out, left the road and barreled through a huge bush, barely missing a cement retaining wall. She came to a stop in someone's driveway and she was hysterical. Her guardian angel was absolutely by her side. I am SO thankful. She sheared off the driver's side mirror, but that seems to be the only damage. VERY SCARY!!
Yesterday, I went with her back and forth to work but she drove. I was proud of her for getting "back in the saddle".
I had the first migrane yesterday that I have had in years and I still have some of it hanging on. My throat is still scratchy and I am still blowing my nose. I DO have my voice back, so I am getting better, just not as quickly as I would like.
I guess I should get back to work now.
Everyone have a wonderful day.
Dawn- How scary..I'm so glad that Liv is OK!!! My goodness. I had something similar happen to me driving in a snow storm on 88. I was lucky too. I slid off the road and was heading straight for the guard rail...I just held on tight and waited for the impact and literally a couple inches before I hit...the car stopped!!! I had to sit there for a minute before driving back on the road because my heart was in my throat!!!
I'm glad to hear you are feeling better. You sound like you had a great day Saturday..it made me a little "home sick" if that's the word for it, for me and Amanda's mother daughter days.
Good Morning,'
Yes, it is cold and sunny out. At least the sun will melt what is left of the ice on my suv.
I went to see my pcp, she had the results of the doppler I had done last week. It is showing something, but nothing major. So, we are going to see a vascular surgeon. And the saga continues. I am calling the Kane Center today, to see about resubmitting for a revision.
OK, it is now 11:20 am, and I have an appointment to see Dr. Guskie on the 28th.
I also have an appointment on 2/1, to see the vascular dr. in Peoria.
Hugs, LISA
Good morning Crystal and IL!
Yep, COLD...NOT my kind of weather. I gave myself a Christmas present early and had a remote start put on my car! I bought a new 2012 Camry in April, and figured since it was new and I'd have it awhile, the remote would be a good thing. Used it this AM, although my car is in the garage, and it isnt freezing, it still takes time for the car to get toasty warm. I have a bout a 15-20 min drive to work, so that was nice this AM. Will start prior to lunch, too. The trick is getting used to (or should I say remembering) to start it ahead of time!
Got my house unchristtmased and feel good about that this weekend. Didn't do a lot. Took Bet to lunch yesterday at Popeye's and over the weekend she has been working on transitioning from her walker to a cane, so she wanted to walk in and eat inside. She did good! We had fun and she said she was so glad to get out and around.
Crystal, sorry about your headache. I'll tell you, I surely wish I had your drive and motivation for being a "good eater and exerciser." I'm not doing that good at losing. Sharon, you too. You may not be losing, but sounds like you are building muscle. Congrats on your dedication to working out. I've said it all along...I just plain hate to exercise. I've joined the gym, and just couldn't keep myself going. I know it's a poor excuse. I have never hit that time where I am dying to work out! LOL
Dawn, so sorry about Liv's accident. How scary. Glad she was able to get in the car and drive. I'm sure it was frightening. Also, hope you start to feel almost like yourself soon!!
Sharon, was being just plain nosey about the house behind me this weekend. The above ground pool was left with water in it and I was planning my strategy to call the health dept. So while I had Roxie out, I went over and peeked in the pool...Lo and behold it was EMPTY! Wahoo. I then went around to the front of the house and there was a paper notice taped to the garage and one to the front door. Nosey me read them and they indicated the house was unoccupied and the bank intended to keep the property up etc. It said to contact a company ( I think it was BAC) for any problems. and the notice said the house had been inspected outside and determined to be empty. Is that kind of what you are doing? On the front door, though, there was a BIG red sign saying "condemned and unfit for habitation" No trespassing, etc. The condemned bothers me a bit. It's is a fairly new house...maybe 12 years old....I know the people who lived there and they just ran on hard times, but the condemned thing is interesting to say the least. This is the same house that one night a few weeks ago when I let Rox out in the evening, I saw flashlights flashing all inside the house, so I called the police, just to report. The dispatcher said, do you back up on Brian Drive? me: yes. She said, it's ok, it;s the police. The front door was unlocked and we are checking out the inside. YIPES.
Lisa, hope your doppler thing works out ok with major problems. Yay on getting to see Dr. McDreamy soon!
Well, didn't mean to ramble. Everyone have a super day!
georgie
Georgie- You got it all wrong.. I don't like working out. I equate it to a chore that needs to get done...like taking out the garbage or doing the laundry. It's now part of my routine and it's something I have to do but I like it as much as I like cleaning my toilet...hahaha!!! The only part I enjoy is listening to my music. I hate getting all sweaty and gross....but then I know I am getting a good workout then. But then I feel really yucky when I take my shirt and pants off and there all wet...yuck. I gross myself out...hahaha!!! But I do like how I feel afterwards and I like the results. So I keep doing it.
Afternoon Everyone.
I am home with the flu. It hit me on Friday and by the time I got home Friday night I knew I had it. I was in bed most of the weekend with the exception of going to the grocery store. The cats HAVE to eat and I would not want to be here when the food ran out! I slept most of yesterday and did not get up until 1:30 today. Right now a nap sounds great lol. Smokey, Gizmo and Claude have been my constant companions. It is nice to be snuggled.
i dont think I will be making it to work tomorrow either.
Crystal, good job on thawing that ice off!
Lisa, I hope your problems are not too serious.
Dawn, glad you are starting to feel better but dont go back to work too soon. I am so glad that Liv is ok! A car mirrow you can replace but not a daughter. It might be a good lesson in disguise. A hard one but a safe one.
Sharon, it sounds like you body is rebelling. You could be right on needing more proteins/calories. Or your body may just be saying --Hey! you are taking away my fat source, I dont want this to happen and I am going to fight you! Hang in there. You can win.
Georgie, I could not live without my remote start. Believe me you will get in the habit of remembering fast!
Everyone have a great day.
Have a good day.
