Hello to all!

I post quite late @ pm. Sry. I wanted to ask everyone...when you went to locate a place that would do your surgery, did they require a non-refundable program fee? I've seen 2 places that does that & forgive me but I think they shouldn't be doing that. I'm on a fixed income (the low end of the scale) & not able to afford fees of $360.00 ect. My vehicle is a 1988 if that tells you how bad it is. I know that if I want it bad enough, I'll have to just deal with it. My spouse is also not wanting to go into Chicago or more than 2 hours away. We live in Sterling so I don't feel as though I have too many choices. Hubby is also disabled & has serious health issues as to why he doesn't want to drive me into Chicago & a far off distance.

Any ideas? I was so wanting for the Peoria Group @ St Francis to do the surgery until I saw their $360.00 non refundable fee.

Well, I have to disagree a little with you about the program fee as most of them are for the support group. The rest of the costs are covered by insurance. My surgeon has one and it is to cover costs for the support group, for the taping of the support group and its upload to the website and the contact with the dietician and exercise physiologist that are provided to the patient. For my doctor group it also includes the patient access to the patient portal.

I am a strong supporter of support groups. My DH (also a RNY patient) and I attend my group numerous times a year (and we are 9+ years out and still think it is important) and we both come away with useful information from each. One of the things about my doc office is that the patients have input as to the subject matter for the monthly meetings so it is not the same old boring subject matter month after month. Groups are such a useful resource and so many patients do not utilize because they think that they do not need them . . .

Do not be a warrior that goes alone and feels that they do not need the support that the fee provides. I have been around for a long time and know what are the benefits.

Good luck with your future journey.

Thanks for replying ladies! I never thought about the fee being for all the extras. I'm thankful to both of you! I'm now going to look @ it in a different light because I do agree that support is extremely important for all of us when dealing w/weightloss surgery. I'll be going to my family doc for the mthly meetings & will have all of you to help me. I know the $360.00 is more than I can get right now so I'll keep looking because I know that eventually I'll either come up w/the money or I'll find a doc that will be doing the surgery. Have a wonderful pm.

Sorry, did not slow down. Ladies, I am not that old and I will not be a couch potato. I did take a snooze before we went out tonight. I walked at lunch today. Got over 5.25 miles on the Fitbit and then went back to my desk and ate lunch in between 'puter and other work.
