Great Gift Idea--Sugar Scrub!
This will be one of my "neighbor gifts" this year and I thought I would share it with you since Sharon needs a good gift idea and I'm sure others might be interested. I made the "Lemon Sugar Scrub" for Weli but substituted Grapefruit essential oil for the lemon juice. She loves it!
Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub
{use as a hand scrub or body scrub}
2 Cups of Brown Sugar
1 Cup of Granulated Sugar
2 Tablespoons of Pumpkin Pie Spice
1 Cup + 1 Tablespoon of Sunflower, Safflower, or Vegetable Oil
Mix Brown Sugar, Granulated Sugar and Pumpkin Pie Spice together, making sure there are no lumps.
Add in oil and mix well. I like to use Sunflower Oil that can be found in most health food stores. Sunflower oil, like other oils, can retain moisture in the skin. {Safflower Oil is very similar to the Sunflower} Alternately, you can use plain Vegetable Oil as well.
These keep well in a sealed, sanitized glass container for months.
Just keep out of direct sunlight; as you would store the oil itself.
Lemon Sugar Hand Scrub
The best recipe to rejuvenate your skin and bring your fingertips back to life.
Mix 2 1/2 Cups of Sugar with 1 Cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (or Sunflower, Safflower, Almond or Vegetable Oil). Add in 4 Tablespoons of Lemon Juice {or scented essential oils to your liking}.
This mixture will make enough to fill a 12oz. Mason Jar {and you'll have just enough left over to clean your hands afterwards too}
Mix really well until a gritty paste forms and spoon into a glass container. {make sure your container has a lid that seals}
After sitting for awhile you may need to mix prior to using as the sugar may settle. A tiny bit is all you need and it leaves your skin extra soft and smooth.
Sweet & Spicy Sugar Scrub
The cold winter air takes it's toll on your skin and this scrub revives your dry hands and leaves them silky, smooth and moisturized. {The scrub is also fantastic for your legs and feet}
Ingredients Needed:
1 Cup of Granulated Sugar
1 Cup of Brown Sugar
2 Teaspoon of Sea Salt
2 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
2 Teaspoon of Nutmeg
2 Teaspoon of Ground Ginger
1 Cup of Sunflower, Safflower, Almond or Vegetable Oil
Additional Supplies Needed: Clean glass or plastic container that seals.
Mix the Cinnamon, Nutmeg and Ground Ginger together really well - slightly grinding them together.
Thoroughly combine together the Granulated Sugar and Brown Sugar - making sure to crush any lumps. Add in the Sea Salt and mix well.
Add the oil of your choice. You can use Sunflower, Safflower, Almond or even Vegetable Oil. I like to use Sunflower Oil , found in most health food stores. Sunflower oil, like other oils, help to retain moisture in the skin. {Safflower Oil is very similar to the Sunflower} Alternately, you can use plain Vegetable Oil as well. {I would omit using Olive Oil with this scrub as the scent can be a little too powerful}
Package the scrub in a well sealed, clean, dry, glass or plastic container. Mason jars work very well. One batch yields approximately 16 ounces of scrub.
Brown Sugar and Vanilla Body Scrub
Mix 2 Cups of Brown Sugar and 1 Cup of Granulated Sugar together until there are no lumps. Add in 1 Cup of Sunflower Oil and 1 Tablespoon of Pure Vanilla Extract.
Mix together well and scoop into a sealable glass container.
Store in a cool space out of direct sunlight.
The scrub does not need to be refrigerated if made using the ingredients above.
The addition of sea salt acts as a natural preservative and recommended if you are not planning on using the scrub right away.
It is important to keep water out of the scrub. The addition of water to the scrub mixture makes it prone to growing bacteria. Use a spoon or scoop to remove the scrub from the container. Scrubs will last up to six months when used with this care. If a scrub goes bad you will be able to smell it and tell. If you see any signs of bacteria growth in the container toss it out immediately and make a new batch.
