Thursday Roll Call
Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We will be going into the city to pick up our son who gets in at 9 am. Then we are going to my in-laws who live in the city.
It will be a day of food and football. My brother in law is coming in also from Iowa. It will be nice to be together. My husband has a good size family.
I will miss my grand-babies, but I have made my peace with that.
Everyone enjoy your day.
Blessings and love,
Sharon
Happy Turkey Day one and all!
Sharon, where does your BIL live in the Hawkeye State? Dave was born in Cedar Rapids and was raised in Marion. Then he came into DeVry on the NW side for school and the rest is history with him starting with the Bell System (Western Electric and later meeting me on a blind date). His sister and her family live in Des Moines (DM) and his mom is still alive (exists) there in a home also in DM.
Dave overslept and missed starting his Dilly Bread for my brother and family. So, we will just get out there a little later than 10i**** is a good thing that I woke up earlier than usual and came downstairs.
I will clean up a little after the cook today and slip in a nap here and there.

After college and a stint in the Navy, Mark left Chicago and moved to Des Moines in the late 80's to take care of an ailing grandparent. He then moved to Cedar Rapids and has been there ever since. His house was destroyed in the flood and he rebuilt. Then everyone on his block walked away from their house over the last 2 years and he is the only one left on his block. I wonder if he will ever come back to IL?
Happy Thanksgiving........Sharon
Oh, yes the big flood in CR in 2008. Many of the people ended up in the housing developement where mom lived on the east side of Marion. She was in Eagle Ridge, a glorified trailer court with double wide homes, horrible quality homes in our opinion. The last time we were out there about 2 years ago there still were FEMA trailers in the subdivision. Dave's folks lost their home due to another flood in '93. They lived along Indian Creek and it started flooding more and more due to the home building near Linn Mar. From what Dave is telling me is that the downtown area of CR is a scary place to be with the crime. Dave's dad drove a bread truck for Colonial Baking Co. which was based in downtown CR - another victim of the economy like Hostess but years ago.
PS - sad with the downtown area of CR. Used to love to go to Younkers and Armstrongs. The Paramount Theater just reopened after being rehabed. We used to love to go to the Chinese restaurant down there also. We love to follow Kurt Warner & Zach Johnson as they are CR boys. We are big fans of Grant Wood and have a reproduction of his Stone City painting in our living room.

Happy Thanksgiving All
I got a Facebook message from Amanda this morning. That was a nice surprise. She has her swearing in tomorrow. So she is done with all of her training and she is an official Peace Corp Volunteer!!! she also told me that if she thought too much about missing Thanksgiving with us she was going to cry...that almost made me cry. It's my first major holiday without her since she was born. It will be weird. Although, Peru doesn't celebrate Thanksgiving (when we do anyway) all of the the Peace Corp volunteers are getting together and having a big potluck...so she is having a Thanksgiving.
I had a busy day yesterday and got all my baking done. Everything came out perfect. I made pound cake (it's my grandma's secret recipe) and Oreo cheesecakes. My specialties and I get special requests for these.
Today I will be driving to Wisconsin for Thanksgiving. That's where it is this year. Normally it's in Aurora but this year it's way out in Wisconsin...I don't even know where. I'm driving but I'm just going to go where they tell me to. It will be nice to see everyone today and spend time with them. We always have a great time. I always hear people talk about families getting together and end up arguing and how much they hate it...it's not like that with us. for that I am thankful. Of course I am thankful I can even call them family...because as you know they aren't blood family. If it weren't for them I would literally have no where to go for the holidays. I have no family worth going to for the holidays. My family (and I'm not kidding) are all dead, in jail, drunk/high, or really, really messed up (I mean look I have an Uncle telling me to get laid on Facebook and my sister is with her boyfriend who molested her daughter???). Thank God for this family I have!!!!!
I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving...and may all the food you eat not make you gain any weight...hahaha...I wish!!! I plan to be good today.
Well I got to get ready now...see you later...bye.
Happy Turkey Day to All,
We are heading for Bloomington, for turkey, then to St. Louis for a mini vacation.
Yesterday was a small bummer. Our department at work is on a "volenteer" cut down on hours. We were told yestterday morning. So, I went back to 3 days a week. I gave up one of my local days, in order to keep my milage days. I was upset at first, but then remembered, I would prefer only working 3 days a week. so, i took off Mondays, to spend more time with my hubby.
to everyone, enjoy your food today, and your feiends and family.
Hugs,
LISA
