Not losing weight after RNY 5 weeks out

I'm feeling a little frustrated.  I was wondering if anyone else has extremely slow weightloss after RNY.  I lost big the first two weeks (12 lbs and 6 lbs), but over the last 3 weeks have only lost a total of 4.5 lbs.  It's killing me that I went through all this and I seem to be kind of stalled already.  Am I just destined to be fat forever!!!  My protien numbers are great, I'm drinking tons of water.  I try to keep my carbs as close to zero as possible.  I've tried eating more frequently, eating more calories, eating less calories.  I'm at a loss!  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Barb

Yes!...Me too! I was very swollen after surgery so they had me on a diuretic and potassium supplements. Lost 23lbs. Now that I am off of the diuretic, Ive lost nothing! I barely eat cuz everything makes me gassy and bloated and uncomfortable. This has been a miserable 6 weeks and I regret everyday that I went thru with the surgery.

Very common situation. Most people come to a standstill (what they perceive as a standstill)  for a couple of weeks right at the 4-6 week mark. Your body is recovering from major surgery and it also thinks it is being starved. It is now time to shake up your exercise program and get hot and heavy on your protein and water intake even more so than you are doing right now. I will tell you one thing that I barely ate any carbs when I was early out like you. I kept most of my calories in the protein arena. It will not hurt you nutritionally for a short while. Your body needs it to keep you from loosing your hair and letting your nails get brittle because these both consist of protein.

The other big thing you should do is throw away the scale .I kept mine out in our shed where it was an effort for me to go out and get it. Do not let it be your judge of loosing. Some people only get weighed at the doctor''s office. You should have measured yourself right after surgery and then keep those numbers because even though the scale does not show anything you might be loosing in inches If you did not measure it is not too late.. Is your clothing getting bigger?

Just keep in mind that a true plateau is when you do not loose any weight or inches for over 30 days.

Christine is so right. I have experienced 2 one month stalls since April 16 when I had my surgery. The trick is not to give up. Take your measurements and you will see the inches melt away when the pounds do not. Stay on program and exercize. Drink tons of water, get your protein in and stay away from simple carbs. I promise you if you do this you will begin to lose again. Best, Sharon
