The last 20 pounds..... OMG!
These last 20 pounds are killer.
I feel like I'm NEVER going to loose it.
I had lap band in July of 2010. I weighed almost 280 at my heaviest and now am down to 205. My goal is 185, and these last 20 have been really hard to get rid of.
I've been at 205 for about a year now - fluctuating between 198 and 210.
I have increased my weight training and cardio. I became a Zumba instructor, and now that the weather is nicer I'm getting out to play tennis again and walking the dogs everyday that it's nice. We do live in Illinois, so the weather can change at the drop of a hat. LOL
It does seem like the more cardio I'm doing and the more days I weight train, the hungrier I am. i try to tell my brain that I'm just thirsty, but then I start to dry heave until I put something in my stomach.
My bariatric surgeon closed his practice. There are no more support groups.
My band is filled btween 7-8 cc. I drink plenty of water, stay away from most sugary carbs.
I consume anyhwere from 800-1200 calories a day, which I think is a bit too much - but I'm hungry. I don't think I should be this hungry with 7-8 cc's in my band.
I guess this warrants a trip to my regular doctor first to see if there isn't a medical reason for this weight not coming off - anyone else have any ideas. Thanks much.

In my personal opinion you are not giving yourself enough calories to sustain itself. Your body more than likely is hoarding calories because it feels that it is being starved. Therefore it is not giving up those last 20#. Try upping your protein and see if that satisfies your hunger. You may have to experiment a little to see how much you need. You have to feed your muscles with enough calories via protein to keep them healthy. The calories that you are consuming is a little low with the 800 with all of the physical activity you are doing. For example when I do a lot of walking as my exercise and/or work in the yard I am more hungry than if I were just being a little bit of a couch potato in the course of the day.

Thanks so much. Someone else suggested increasing my liquid intake too.
I'll try to up the protein a little. I'm trying for 75g a day. Maybe close to 100 is better. We'll see.
Also hard with no family support. My husband think I should eat no more than the size of a hardboiled egg at meals.
I don't know how to explain it to him that they didn't remove my stomach. LOL
Thanks again.

Well, the protocol for my doctor is no more than 1/2 cup at a meal or snack which is just about the size of an extra large egg. So your husband is not far off when he says about the size of a hardboiled egg. Now, with slider and less dense protein foods I can get more in. But when it comes to meat, fish, cheese, poultry that 1/2 cup rule comes into play and if I eat anymore than that I am in big trouble with it not going down.
So, amounts as far as I know are important with bandsters also because my doc is at our support group meetings also and he stresses this to all of the patients - RNY, band and VSG. I am sure that you know of the problems of overeating with your band, slippage and stretching the pouch so I will not go into that . . .
The 100g of protein should help. Liquid intake is helpful also.

WOW! Thank you for those suggestions. I had no idea how off I really was.
Here I think I've been doing well with what I eat.
No wonder the last 20 isn't coming off. I'm overeating.
I'm glad that's it, because I'm not sure I could put any more exercise in my day without passing out.
My average day is
Breakfast: either protein powder with low carb yogurt in a smoothie
or
2 egg whites with a piece of cheese.
Lunch: small side salad with vegetables and either 2 ounces of fish or 2 ounces of chicken. little dressing.
and
Dinner is usually:
1/2 cup greens and either tuna or pork or chicken 2-4 ounces. spray butter only if i need it.
I drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning with splenda. I also drink crystal light and propel throughout the day.
Ok, I am so not perfect. I do have a snack every once in a while, when my husband brings home fresh strawberries or black berries.
thank you for your help.
Be thankful you have support groups.
