Chicago Loop
Revision on 04/19/13
This is for my sister. She is going to be staying at the Palmer House for a weekend, and will be going to a play. She is wondering, What are some good places to eat, within a few blocks of the hotel. They don't know what play they will be going to. It is just in the planning stage now.
Thanks.
LISA
Keeping in mind that all food joints in the Loop are pretty expensive I will pass on several of my picks.
There is The Gage on Michigan Ave right across from the Bean. It is an American Bistro type of place and was recently featured on Check Please. We like to go here during the summer and fall and sit outside. They have a fantastic salad with grilled chicken breast on it.
There is a Houlihan's just north of the Bean at MI & Wacker Drive. They are open for breakfast.
There are many chain restaurants including The Corner Bakery, Micky D's, Subway, Jimmy John's but one must remember that many of them are not open on the weekends.
Heaven on Seven (casual),111 N Wabash is a great Cajun/ Creole restaurant. I have only gone to the sister rest. just west of Michigan Ave I think on Grand.
Tavern at the Park. 130 E Randolph just across the street from Millenium Park. Upscale, pricey but great food. Great burgers and steaks. Not open on Sunday's.
The Berghoff 17 W Adams great German food. Yes they are still open. They only closed for a short while a few years ago. They did not close because of nasty reasons but due to a family decision to end the run of the restaurant.
There are a lot of great restaurants up on MI Ave north of the river if one is up to taking a taxi or would like to walk.
Emilio's Tapas 215 E Ohio St.
Bucca Di Beppo Italian 521 N Rush St. Great Italian food and the portions are huge. 2 adults can share a meal.
The 95th near the top of the Han**** is fantastic but pricy.
If one takes a cab to Navy Pier there is Bubba Gumps, Harry Carey's, fast food places, Jimmy Buffet's Margarritaville, and Riva Crab House - my favorite! Great seafood and the view in the restaurant upstairs is fantastic.
The hotel staff can also direct the guest to any type of restaurant and in each room should be a book for one to look through and see if there is something that strikes their fancy.
