Thursday Roll Call

I would not consider going fully wireless EVER. First off the quality of the voice for a cell is fair to poor. Most people will say it is "good" enough but a land line is far superior to cell, no matter how good the cell is. Another big thing to consider is if you call 911 from a cell it goes to the county sheriff dispatch center no matter where you live in the country and they in turn have to transfer the call to the local police agency. That is time lost in an emergency. Calling 911 from a cell while on the road is okay - better than waiting for a vehicle to come and help you. I do not care what kind of a photographic memory one might have but you cannot remember all of the numbers to the police agencies/jurisdictions that you drive through especially in an emergency.

I will get off of my soap box now.

Christine, you really have hit my top two reasons for not getting rid of my land line.  The 911 and I agree with the voice quality!  I'm hoping cutting back on some of my "features" will help ease the phone bill pain!!

Just a couple thoughts...

I'm with ATT and have a MicroCell in the home.  It connects to my router and acts like a mini cell tower.  The other piece to that is it supports enhanced 911 service just like a land line.   During the set up you tell it your location information.  Of coure, if you take the MicroCell with you on a road trip, say to Florida, and use it to dial 911, it will ring back to our METCAD.

As to the voice quality, most folks don't even think I am using a cell phone.  It does get a little ragged calling another cell phone but I blame that on their phone.  And to add to that both mine and Sandee's cell phones connect to a home base with standard handsets, keyboards and such.

Boys and toys!

You should test calling 911 to see where it goes stay on the line and explain to the call taker that you want to make sure that your system in your house is working as it should. Ask the call taker where the call is being answered at. They will not get mad at you or anything like that as it happens regularly. If you live in a rural area then naturally your call with go to your local sheriff. If you live in an incorporated area and the call ends up at the sheriff you know that it has to be transferred to your local police agency. We have calls come into our E911 center where I work all the time asking these same questions.

When I worked at Dupage County as a 911 dispatcher, we would get these calls all of the time.  Poeple would call when they moved and got a new number.  I was there for a year and there were 3 I got that were wrong...can you imagine if they hadn't checked.

I have cut my land line 3 years ago.  I do wonder about emergencies but not enough to pay for land line service...so far so good....Knock on wood !!!

We still get the misdirected calls on occasion but for the most part the different Tx Co's are better at their programming.

We are of an age that we do not rely on "knock on wood". It only takes once and you can be the recipient of meeting your maker sooner than you expected to. . . phone service - is that is somthing we budget for.

Hello everyone!

Fast flyby for me.  I am on break at work.  I never got posted yesterday.  So much to do in the evenings.  Where does the time go?  We are busy at work.

I went to the neurologist yesterday and he released me.  I dont have to go bac****il I have problems again!  So everything has healed nicely.  He does tell me that I should not expect to sit longer than an hour without pain.     I'd love to know what type of job that would entail!

Don -- it sounds like you are doing wonderful!  I wish I could have said the same just out from surgery.

Georgie, I hope you have fun with Chloe at your haunted adventure.

Lisa, I am sure you will have a great time with Morgan this weekend.

Everyone have a great day!

Well. another late day at work. I think this is going to be the norm this year.

I have a samsung phone, that I paid $49. for. It does what I want, I take pictures, send messages, lock it, and by the way, I can even call on it.

Hope everyone has a good night.
