Hello Folks,

In Urbana, but have to go to St. Vincent in Carmel, IN because insurance requieres I go to a COE.  Married, 57, reasonably avid bicyclist.  (I don't do too bad for a fat boy on skinny tires!)  LOL

Insurance has approved my surgery!  Pre-op exam on Sept 22 and good chance of getting it done before the middle of October.

I've already stirred up a hornets nest on the VSG board so I need to stay away from there for a while until I get my calm back.  LOL  Getting active on the exercise board and spend some time on the IN board too.

I plan to retire by October of 2012 and my wife will be going about May of 2013.  We got things to do and places to see and I want to make sure I am ready.

Welcome to the Illinois Board.  We are a group of people who have all had a variety of surgeries.  We do not get into any surgery wars.  Please join us for our daily roll call if you are so inclined.  We post about the things going on in our lives, our struggles and successes be they weight loss related or not.  We have a great support system and love to answer questions and help each other!

Hi Don,

One of our members, Crystal, just moved to Urbana. Others are in Bloomington and south.

Welcome to our board. We enjoy new members. Nancy said it all.

You will shortly join us on the losers  bench. It is an exciting place to be.

Hello Don

As Lisa mentioned I just moved here to Urbana a month ago.  I am still settling in...in fact some of my furniture comes today.

Here on the Illinois board we never have any drama or surgery wars.  We talk about all aspects of our lives...not just diet and exercise.  I think this makes us a closer knit group, because we really know each other.

I would like to go biking but haven't bought a bike yet.  I want to buy used and have been scanning Craigslist but haven't found anything I like yet.  I am really liking Urbana.  How long have you lived here?

Well I hope to see you on the our daily roll call.  See ya later

Welcome to shampoo banana.  (local joke)

I've been this area since 1982.  I was an air traffic controller in the USAF and was hired here post strike.  I had to hang up the headset almost 2 years ago because I turned 56 and can't talk to planes any more but I perform staff work still and help in quality assurance, training and other supporting factors.  I hope to retire by NLT October 2012.

Craiglist?    Not a big fan of that.

I'm a big (pardon THAT pun) fan of Champaign Cycle.  Durst cycles is a good operation also with stores in both Urbana & Champaign.  Check into them for used bikes.  I always urge anyone thinking about starting cycling, no mater if it is balloon tire or race bike, in the neighborhood or out into the country, to get to a good bike shop and get advice on fitting.  Too many people get bad equipment (Walmart), improperly sized, or bikes not best suited for their goals.  BTW, my father-in-law fixes bikes up in Paxton and sells them at a pretty good prices.  Most of his bikes are straight bar, mountain(ish) bikes but he doesn't deal with real junk.  Lots of little kids bikes too.  I might be able to help you make that connection.

My lovely wife Sandee and I bought a home built by the Urbana High School nearly 20 years ago.  Been a great investment!  We are near Meadow Brook Park which is on Windsor road and Sandee LOVES it.  You might be able to pick her out on the trails.  She is the one with 1 or 2 German Shepherd Dogs escorting her.  Gunny (in my profile pic) & Thor are her protectors.

Carle Clinic runs a lap band support group on the last Tuesday of the month.  It is held at the Curtiss Road clinic, second floor at 6:30 pm.  It is open to the public.  I'm the lone VSGer there but Carle Care insurance just recently approved VSG so maybe we will see folks like me start attending.  I still have to go to St. Vincent in Carmel, IN because of my primary insurance.

Good to know about the bikes and the support group.  The one up where I used to live was sooo big I didn't like it.  There were at least 60-70 people there and I was looking for something more intimate.

I live near Meadow Brook.  I live near Vine and Colorado...on Harding.  I love the park.  I have gone there on the nice cool days and jogged.

Meetings have had about 12-20.  Might change as fall sets in but can't imagine it getting much bigger.

BTW, I saw the pictures of your daughter and the tigers.  AWESOME animals!  Several years ago I volunteered to transport a tiger cub from a sanctuary in Wisconsin.  I flew up there and brought the cub back down here to the U of I Vet Med to let them have a chance on fixing some of the problems.  Sadly, I never got a chance to return.  The cub passed on because of a heart valve defect.  Still brings a lump in my throat to this day.

Welcome, welcome Don!

So glad to "meet" you!  I can't add anything to what the others have said, just good to see you here!

Tell someone that you love them!
