Sunday Roll Call
Good Morning/day everyone. Seems like the heat left us briefly overnight. Hopefully it will be pleasant today especially with the wind out of the NW. We are going to a friends for a BBQ and a pool party. It is close by in Elk Grove Village. I made the cheese ball spread yesterday so all the flavors can come together before eating it. I got a lot done yesterday outside before the heat really hit and I was mostly in the shade for the majority of time. Yes, yes I drank plenty of water - 5 16ozer bottles. The square foot garden boxes are looking great. Sure hope we do not get hit with tomato blight like I have had in the past.

Hello everyone
It was freakin hot yesterday.
I am so glad this is a 3 day weekend. I don't know where the day went yesterday. I was getting rid of more stuff in closets. I kept finding more stuff to go through (the less I have to move the better). In fact I am thinking about having a moving sale. I will sell everything mega cheap. If you know anyone in need of some furniture...most in great condition (a list of items for sale will come later) . I finally got around to working out around 1pm. I ended up giving myself a migraine. I took my Imitrex and a couple of hours later I was fine. I was off to JCPenney and Meijer to run my errands. I started to feel light headed and I realized that I hadn't eaten since 6am and it was 5pm. So I picked up some Chipotle. I got home ate and finished cleaning up and next thing I knew it was 9pm!!!! So today I have to do laundry. Thanks to a very knowledgeable person I will be hunting craigslist for some free boxes today too.
My shoulder/neck area has been hurting since yesterday. The normal Tylenol and bio-freeze isn't working. I'm sure it's it's because I increased my weight lifting.
I don't know if I mentioned this but I bought that Bare Minerals makeup. I bought the whole set. Yesterday I tried it for the first time and I really like it. I think I am converted...no more drug store make up for me.
Well any plans for the day??
Christine- When I was a kid we would go to the Taste. But I'm not much for crowds in sweltering heat...good idea not going.
Debbie- Thanks for the tip on the boxes. I think I will have a bunch by the end of the day. For free...just the cost of the gas to get them.
Georgie- I have a back-up place in mind but I'm holding out for something better. It's a nice duplex in Urbana but it doesn't have a back yard. It has a patio and a driveway...so it's more than I have now. I did see something I really like that has everything including a back yard, garage, nice neighborhood, and pets are OK. The problem is I think they are looking for someone to move in ASAP and I can't move till next month. We will see what's available when I go down for the big hunt. The one thing I have going for me is that the area is saturated with rentals (because of the university).
Well I am going to continue being a big lazy lump for a couple more hours before I get up and start doing things. Have a great Independence Day Eve!!!!

Crystal, I have a friend that works for Fellowes here in Itasca and she can get boxes that are seconds. They are not free but are cheaper than what they sell in stores.
I love Bare Minerals make-up. It takes a little longer to put on but is well worth it. I never feel like I have make-up on when I wear it. They have new caps now that are click n go that close up so the powder does not shake out. The little containers in the past were horrible as you always had to transport them upright - well that does not happen in a purse. Be careful when you use Warmth if it is part of your kit only use what they say because anymore than what is recommended will make you look orange.
For a dummy like me that has never been under a lease - how will you get out of yours? What happened to the one apt or house that you loved - has it been rented? I would recommend that you check out a complex/area during a time of day that is busy like when people are home. Many people make the mistake of going during the day when people work or go to school and it is quiet. But the weekends and evenings tell the tale . . . You might also want to FOIA all the incidents on that street or complex for a period of time. You do not need to necessarily get the report copies but a list of what has tranpired. I would make sure that it is not a party area especially since it is a college town. If you need anymore info on how to research police activity in an area that you are interested in let me know. I will tell you what the police has to tell you.

I don't have to get out of my lease as I am month to month. So no lease to get out of. I do agree about going to the neighborhood at different times of the day. After renting apartments my whole adult life I can tell a property that is taken care of and one that is not. You can see garbage on the ground, dumpsters over flowing. In the Summer the grass is over grown. I also look at the tenants in other units and how they treat the common areas. A good landlord won't let people break their rules and will get rid of them when their lease is up. I also don't like places that seem to have way too many kids running around. They tend to be loud.
The place I wanted initially I was told by Amanda's in-laws that it was very near a bad area in town. So the house itself was in an OK area but only a couple blocks away was a bad neighborhood...so that is a not good for me.
I never heard of a FOIA and would love to know how to find out about police activity. I would like any info you have.
About the moving to a party area. I am lucky to know quite a few people that were born and raised in the area. In fact the duplex (my back up) that Charles (my SIL) wants me to rent is only 2-3 blocks from his mom's house. He grew up in the neighborhood and it's way away from the campus party atmosphere.

FOIA=Freedom of Information Act. I have spoken of it in the past in some posts. There is a Federal version of it and all of the 50 states have their own legislation to mirror or go one step further to insure an open and honest government. All agencies are to have a form created for citizens to make a request for information but they cannot require you to use it. The person can simply write a request giving the criteria that they are looking for and fax or snail mail the request. Government agencies have 5 business days to respond to the request. Some of the data involved can be redacted like address, DL#s, SOC#, bioidentifiers, medical information, phone #s, juvenile reports (unless going to a parent and then there are rules that apply to that also) . . .believe it or not the DOB cannot be redacted but some agencies (mine included) will routinely ask the requestor if it can be removed. For us if the person says no on the DOB we will tell them that there will be a delay in receiving the info while we write to the Attorney General's Public Access Consul to ask if we can remove it. There is more to what an agency can and cannot give out. This is just an overview.

Crystal,
If you have trouble finding boxes, I still have my boxes from when I moved. They are the professional movers boxes. I have plenty. They are in the rafters of my garage and should be ok.
By the way, I have been using Bare Minerals for about 10 years and will never go back to regular makeup! It is quick and easy to apply and I love it! I do not aggravate my rosaccea with it. I find as I get older I need to use a moisturizer first. It also offers SPF protection!

Good Morning on the day before The 4th. I have no plans for today. Just do a couple of things here in the house, then head for the backyard. I do not even have to cook today. We have plenty of leftovers from our Family 4th bbq yesterday.
Yesterday was great. We spent time in the pool, with our kids, had a great dinner of NY Strip steaks, corn on the cob, potatoes, shrimp kabobs, fruit and much later, cherry pie. Then we walked to the high school field for lip sych and fireworks. There is a parade today, but I think I will opt not to go and stay home in the pool.
Crystal, remember, you are moving to a college town. There are prenty of rentals now, but come August, they will be grabbed up by students.
Jules has a great idea about a meet and greet. Hopefully someone will plan something.
I am now going to start on my "busy" day. I do ♥ days like this.
Stay safe and cool. DRINK lots of water.
Hugs,
LISA

That would be true if I were moving to one of the rentals close to campus. But I'm staying the heck away from there. I'm actually looking on the outskirts of town. I have been looking at the apartments in the area since last November and the one way off campus sit on the market for a long while.
Really after Amanda's rental experience on campus I know most of the apartments are grabbed by students before March...even February. They starting signing leases for the next school year towards the beginning of 2011.
