Friday Roll Call

Hello everyone

I woke up at 2:30am and wasn't able to go back to bed.  So I figured while i was up I might as well watch the royal wedding.  It really is spectacular...it is the first time in my life I wish we had a monarchy here in the US...hahaha.  When I was around 8 or 9 my grandma dragged me out of bed to watch Princess Diana's wedding.  She said it was history...and of course I just could not care less.  I was bored and wanted to go back to bed....hahaha.

Well today is the last full day of year end...thank the lord.  I still have to come in on Saturday to transmit the files to corporate.  This day needs to end quickly but I'm sure I will be at work late tonight.

One thing that happened at work that annoyed the crap out of me was- HR sent random emails to a number of people in the company that they have to furnish their birth certificate to prove citizenship???  This puzzles me as we all furnish the needed documentation (as per the federal W-2) to prove citizenship when we all got hired.  So why this, now???  I think god don't have to furnish mine because I don't have an official copy of mine.  If they did ask me for mine I would have asked what legal grounds do they have to ask for this...since I already showed them my SS card and drivers license...8 years ago.

Well I better get going I got to get ready for work.  Have a good day

Crystal, having provided your SS card and DL are not proof of citizenship. You do not need to be a citizen to have taxes taken out of your check or to get a DL. Do you have a passport or a voter registration card? Those are proofs of citizenship. More than likely they have to prove to the Feds and State that their employees are legally here in the US and or are citizens of the US. One needs to have a passport to now travel to MX or Canada. We as American citizens have had it easy as in other parts of the civilized world have had to have a passport to just cross a border from one country to another in Europe - that is this had to be done before the European Union was created.

My work annoyingly has us fill out our medical insurance and benificiary paperwork every year.

I do have a voter's registration card but they are specifically asking for birth certificates.  I haven't heard of any new law where all of the sudden I would have to show someone my birth certificate.  What I was saying if there isn't a law then they have no grounds in which to demand my birth certificate.  Getting mine would be a pain in my butt.  It's a long story but here it is in a nut shell.  I went on line to get a copy of my birth certificate ( I was born in Berwyn, IL so Cook County would have my birth records).  anyway, online they ask you the normal questions like name, birthdate, place of birth, mother's name, father's name...the problem is there is no father stated on my birth certificate.  So when I was online I tried to skip this line or put unknown and it wouldn't let me skip the father.  In this day and age they really think every one has a father on their birth certificate!!!  I called Cook County and they said I would have to come down in person!!!  So I would have to take the day of from work and go into the city and spend $30 on this crap!!!  It makes me so mad!!!  I think this is why I am mostly annoyed.  Not to mention if you didn't have a father listed on your birth certificate would you want a bunch of people at work seeing it...no.  I look like trash because of this whole "no father" business!!!

I am going to ask around here to find out why your employer might be asking for this paperwork. Even if it is not a law or something there might be random checks from the Fed and State level. You should see if you can get a waiver from HR on this issue after you talk in private to someone there. If your HR dept is showing private papers to other employees then they can get in trouble. There are privacy laws and that would be a violation of it.

You do not look like trash. Please get that out of your mind. There are millions of people that do not have the father's name on the birth certificate. Yes, it is BS that you cannot skip over some of the fields.

Good morning all,
I am up a bit earlier this am to watch the royal wedding. I know, I'm a dork! Oh well, I watched Charles and Diana many years ago. I am sure Princess Di is smiling down on them today. I just hope the paparazzi will leave them alone. I would hate to see harm brought on those them.
On a bright side, Thank God for drugs. I was able to get two rounds of antibiotics in me yesterday and already I feel better. Today my students leave at 11:30 today and afterwards we get to work on paperwork. I love teaching Special Ed but the paperwork and documentation needed takes the fun out of it.
Hope all have great day today. Enjoy the sun!

I am not sleeping well lately as I have my health issues on my mind. But on a good side note - Dave saw his knee surgeon for the last time yesterday. He will not have to go back to see him unless he is having a problem.

Work and then home to meet with two of my vendors that are going to be at my open house tomorrow - Pampered Chef and the jewelry ladies. Then there are a few organizing things to do. After that I guess we will order a pizza and have it delivered. It always comes piping hot as they are only 5 blocks away.

Later Gators!

Dear Chris:

I am not exactly sure what your "issues" are, but I had MANY that were mostly fixed by that last surgery.  Things work MUCH better now and I can sympathize with the idea of getting older and things not working correctly.  I also spent many years putting up with it.  Things are much better now.  I wish you good luck!
