Friday Eve Roll Call

Hello everyone

It's Friday Eve!!!  Yeah!!!  I am freezing cold right now.  It seems every day at work I am wrapped in my blanket.  Yep, I have a blanket at work.

I'm going to sound crabby but there was a lady here at work complaining about having to come in and work 7am-5pm this week...she was acting soooo tired and she had such a long day.  I felt like telling her I work 6am-5pm (sometimes longer) and have done it every day for 6 years.  I am grateful for the overtime (because I could always use the extra money) but it would be nice not to HAVE to work overtime.  Maybe when I find a new job there will be no overtime.  The problem with me is if you offer it I will take it...I can't help it.  My name is Crystal and I'm an overtime addict.... But seriously with gas prices up so high and me needing clothes every month because of weight loss...I really do need the over time.

Now something positive...I like that when I am on my way to work in the morning I see the sky starting to brighten up.  I love when I work out at night the sun doesn't set right away.  And daylight savings time is coming soon.  So the sun will be out till 6...at least...oh how nice that will be.  To me that is one of the first signs of Spring.  Oh oh oh another favorite thing about Spring...I love when I walk out in the morning to go to work and the sun is shining and the birds are tweeting...ahhhhh  that's soooo nice.  Ok I am getting carried away now thinking about Spring....hahaha

Well better get back to work...have a great day.  Bye

Good Morning.

I agree with you about spring mornings, and I will add 1 more. It is warmer in the morning, and........it doesn't take 15 minutes extra to bundle up so we can go out.

As far as overtime, my age is showing, I don't want it. I want to get home and live my life utside of work.

We had a nice time with Monica, Scott and Morgan last night in Ottawa.

Today, it is work, then home for leftovers.

Have a safe, warm day.

Huggers,
LISA

Good morning Crystal, Lisa and IL family!

I sure hear you about spring! I can't wait. It's nice to drive into work with some daylight now. I'd love to have overtime but in my position it is salaried so they can work me to death and I get the same pay. Ugh!!

My sis is still in the hospital at Alexian Brothers. They have her on TPN with a PIC line - NPO. The doctors are hoping that her post-op ileus resolves on its own. Hopefully her bowels will wake up! LOL. She is still nauseated and brings up phlegm. I feel so bad for her too. She's seen the entire Kane group except for her own doc - Guske. That is one thing I don't like about their practice.

I'm doing okay. Wanting so much to break the 200 mark and my body is being stubborn right now but I am more stubborn and will do it in another week! Exercising has reshaped me quite a bit - shifting my excess weight to my top parts - I hate that!!! Small butt and hips now.

Oh well, at least I am getting there.

Wishing everyone a wonderful day!

Hugs,
Lucy

Good morning Crystal and the rest of Illinois!

I am at work and actually worked overtime twice so far this week.  My boss wants me to take "flex time" instead of paying overtime though.  We will see.  I suppose that is legal?

Been very busy with the kids....running to rehearsals and other activities.  Now Liv is on the softball team and has to squeeze that in.  This morning and tomorrow, they begin practice at 6:00 AM!!!!  I need a nap!

Talked to my good friend in Chicago last night and she invited us in for next weekend.  We were IN the parade with her last year, but this year, that organization is not going to participate, but we are thinking of going down to watch with all the crowds......an experience for sure.

Gotta get back to work1

Everyone have a spectacular day!

Actually the last i heard it's not legal.  Having to take time off so the employer doesn't have to pay overtime...is called comp time.  He is getting flex time mixed up with comp time.  Unless you want to take the time off.

So...."comp Time" is legal?
What is "flex time"?

He is dyslexic both in speech and reading and ALWAYS mixes words.  It is supposed to be my job to KNOW what he MEANS, rather than what he SAYS........;-)

Hi Dawn,

Typically  'flex" time refers to workers who have a schedule that allows them to come in at an agreed to "flexible" time schedule...meaning a variety of things, but as an example, they might have varying starting times to allow for, say attending a class...but if they are full time, they are working their 40 hours/week.

Comp time is giving someone additional time off for time worked, however should NOT be done to get around paying overtime. Typically you would see "comp" time for salaried employees.

However, if you have worked 40 hours (and let's say your work week is Monday -Friday) and by Friday at noon, you have your 40 hours in, the boss can tell you to take the 4 hours off so that they do not have to pay overtime.  The time off has to come within the SAME week of work, and shouldn't be taken at a later date.  If you would reach your 40 hours at noon on Friday and the boss still has you work the additional 4 hours, then he MUST pay overtime for ANYTHING over 40 hours in a work week. The is a FEDERAL law.

Hope that helps.  georgie

Yep....it's illegal.  He wants me to just "bank" any time over 40 for future time off needs.......

Sticky business working in a family business.  He does this to EVERYONE here, not just family.

I forgot you were in HR.

Thanks for the info.

And the hours should be calculated at time and a half for the comp time as well.
