Tuesday Roll Call
I got to work this morning with no problems. On TV they said slippery conditions but I saw none. I am happy February is almost over and March starts and Spring is getting closer and closer.
I was reading an interesting article about how carbs are more addictive than cocaine. I believe it too...once I start eating them it's really hard for me to stop (that's one of the reasons I choose to avoid simple carbs). There's an interesting book that I want to read about this "Why We Get Fat"...the book goes into detail about how our body breaks down the carbs and how our brains react to carbs. They also talk about all of these studies where rats preferred sugar to cocaine. And it's all explained in layman's terms. I'm going to pick up the book Thursday (when I get my freakin' debit card back).
Nancy - I hope you get to have your surgery soon. The waiting around would drive me nuts.
Welcome to all of the new people posting. I hope to see you returning daily.
Got to get going. Have a nice day...see ya later.
Roads were fine for me pretty much. The East-West Roads anyway. The north-south road was snowy but not terrible.
That book (and all your books) sounds interesting. You should set up a swap (or something)when you are done with them.
I am working today then home to get Liv to her rehearsal. David begins rehearsal tomorrow night after theater cleaning. We are "off to the races"!
I am also looking forward to Spring. I hope to get some time to mydself to start back on regular excersize. I just don't seem to have a free minute. I will have to start getting up earlier again.
I am sending good vibes to Nancy also as she needs to be as pain free as possible.
Gotta get back at it!
Everyone have a fabulous day!
Sitting here at work and doing the usual. We are going to a plumbing supply company here in town after I get home and find a new kitchen faucet. Our Delta is dripping, I do not fill like fixing the washers in it and I also do not like it. I have a couple Moen's picked out. I need to go to the post office after that.

Good Morning,
I am at work, like the rest of you. The roads were fine, after I got out of my driveway, and got the ice off the windows.I am hoping we are done with this mess of a winter, so we can concentrate on spring.
Pork tenderlion on tap for dinner tonight. Not sure what it will go with, other then mock mashed potatoes.
Nancy, I hope you get to your surgery shortly. I donot like how these insurance companies think they are God and play around with the medical problems people have.
Dawn, it seems like your life is forever busy.
Christine, have fun shopping for a new facet.
To everyone, have a great day. stay warm and safe.
Huggers,
LISA
Big day out for me today! Going to Walmart to get some molds to melt down some of my scentsy scents to make some samples to send to people. i don't have any parties booked for March and I really need some since the husband hasn't had any interviews yet. I also have to go to the bank and the grocery store.
I'm going to get on the treadmill today for 30 minutes. I will go slow, but I feel the need to get some exercise in. The nurse said I went from 7.9 sonometers to 5.5 in a little less than a week on the wound. So it appears to be healing nicely now. Thank goodness!
I made a really good shrimp dish last night. I cut back a little on the pepper (stomach isn't used to too much pepper yet and doubled the brandy and lemon juice). It was very good! I only was able to eat 4 shrimp, but I have some left over for lunch today!
I hope you enjoy it! I'm making a Chicken Puttanesca for dinner tonight. If it's good I will post that too!
Take care,
Jules
Peppery Garlic Prawns Recipe
Print Options
Menu suggestion: Goes well over white basmati rice (be sure to drizzle extra sauce from the pan over the rice), snow peas or sugar snap peas, and some french bread to soak up the garlic sauce. If you don't like the strong black pepper taste, you can back off a bit and it's still great.
Ingredients
- 4 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon crushed black peppercorns*
- 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
- 2 Tbsp brandy
- 1 lb. raw medium-sized shrimp, shelled, de-veined and split (tails on or off)**
- 1-2 Tbsp olive oil
- 2 Tbsp fresh chopped parsley
*Crushing the peppercorns can be done with a mortar and pestle. Or if you don't have a mortar and pestle, place the whole peppercorns in a small ziplock bag and place that bag inside another ziplock bag and smash with a hammer. Do this on a hard surface, if done on a wood surface, it can leave dents. The ziplock will also tear a bit, so take care not to lose the crushed pepper (why you double bag it).
** Trader Joe's has great frozen uncooked, shrimp, shelled and de-veined with tails on. To defrost frozen shrimp, place in a bowl of ice water in the refrigerator.
Method
1 Mix together the crushed garlic, salt, crushed peppercorns, lemon juice and brandy. Add the shrimp and marinate at least an hour or up to overnight in the fridge.
2 Heat a heavy skillet over medium high heat and add olive oil. Add shrimp and garlic mixture and cook quickly, tossing shrimp. The longer the shrimp has been marinating, the less time it takes to cook. Coo****il the shrimp has turned opaque (generally only 2-3 minutes).
Garnish with chopped parsley. Serves 2-3 as a main dish, 4 as an appetizer.
You more than likely would not see Bill that often because he is straight midnights.

We used to do a separate post just for recipes. Called it R.O.D.-(name of dish/recipe)
The R.O.D. is for Recipe of the Day.
That way, you can be sure that we will ALL see it and not miss any of these yummy things you are finding.
I used to try to put one up every day, but I kind of ran out of recipes after a while. I still have them all if there is something in particular you are looking for........
