My best friend and bud Dave update
They took him in for his femoral nerve block at 8:30 this morning and then I was informed that he was taken into the OR and the surgery began at 10:45, 45 minutes late. Karen Crosby (my SIL) sat with me, we talked had lunch together and all in all it helped pass the time. Karen knitted socks and I crocheted necklaces. The nerve block will keep him from having pain on the front side of his knee for the rest of the time while he is in the hospital. He also has a PCA with pain meds that goes into his IV for any other pain. The doctor told Karen and I that he had a lot of scar tissue from an old 1972 skiing injury but was able to get around it. It also has some ligament damage, he has a new knee, minus bone spurs on the back of the knee that were removed. There is a drain in the knee to remove any blood and then they take and return that to his system via IV. So he is getting his own blood back. The doc had a hard time with the spurs. The doctor has ordered the continuous motion machine for use at home and all I have to do is make sure that I answer the doorbell when it is delivered next week. Dave is in room 823, can receive visitors and phone calls. 847 618 1823. NW Comm hospital has a whole new wing on the south end of the hospital with all private rooms and I can stay with him if I choose to do so and I might do that tomorrow night. We will see on that as I love my own bed and TV to fall asleep to, LOL.

Hello
I'm glad everything went smoothly. I am going to look up "continuous motion machine" I have no idea what that is. It sounds like it could be a pain in the butt....but necessary. Everyone I know that had knee replacement always say it was the best thing they ever did. So I am sure he will be up in about in no time at all...a new man!!! I will be looking forward to your next update...see ya later.

I assume they have had Dave up and walking. Those first few days are a killer but it does get better!
