Anyone know?

I am just wondering if anyone here has BCBS of IL PPO? The reasoning for this is, I have completed my 3 month Dr. Supervised weight plan and I have completed all of my pre testing. (cardio, psych eval and the pulmonary) Got a release for surgery from all 3. I also have lost the 6 lbs that BCBS requires for approvals. (i have actually lost 19 in the 2 months) I was just wondering just how long it will actually be before I get the approval back? Does it usually take longer than 3 weeks?

Lori, you should hear within 3 weeks. You need to check with your Dr,s office to see when it was submitted. If it has been summitted for longer then that, call BCBS yourself and ask if it has been looked at.

I have BCBS of Minn PPO and I have been told it is easier to get approvals from PPOs than it is from HMOs.  My approval came lightening fast.  My paperwork was faxed to the insurance company on Friday and the very next Monday I called the insurance company to see if they received the paperwork ( I did this because I have heard that some people have had delays due to the insurance company not receiving the paperwork)  So I called and the lady said the paperwork was received and I was APPROVED!!!  It was that fast.  I asked them to fax me the approval paperwork and I then faxed it to the surgeon's office. 

So here's to you getting a fast approval.  Also, call to see if they received the paperwork.

Congrats on the 19 lbs!  That's a great start.  I have BCBS of IL HMO.  It only took them about 2 days for the approval once it was submitted.  Best of luck.

Yes, you should have heard something by now.  Call both the doctor's office and BCBS to make sure everything was sent/received.

on the weight loss start, keep up the good work.

I really have nothing more to add. I had my surgery 7+ years ago and did and still have the same insurance as you. Back then I received my snail mail response in 2 weeks and my DH also was approved the same way, same year for his RNY.

Thank you so much for all the congrats. Well, I did call the Dr's office this morning and YES, I now have the approval. I just have to wait for them to schedule it and when I talked to them this morning, she said she would get it scheduled and get back to me by Thursday. I really hope she does. I will let everyone know when it is. So it will be a Merry Christmas for me and a New Beginning for the New Year. I am so excited.
