Good morning and day to all in Illini Land. I have a little more yard work before the kiddies start coming around at 1pm. I need to get the far back second lot mowed. We like to make sure it is clipped short before winter so it is not a hay field in the spring before we mow it for the first time. I also need to get the "spent" flowers out of the planters and in the lawn refuse bags.

I have a small pork roast defrosting for dinner and I will make some smashed taters to go with it.

What is on your agenda for today???

Hello everyone

I am going to fashion Bug and Fox Valley Winery today.  After that I am done with my Christmas shopping.  Except for my work gifts but I don't get those till later.  I will always pick up extra gifts here and there.  I always do.  And I have to get boxes and gift wrap.  Otherwise, I am done with my shopping.

Otrher than that I have nothing else going on.  I will probably wat some scary movies.  In fact I'm watching Halloween now.  I love horror movies.

Chritine-  I tried to find the article you were talking about and couldn't find it.  Is it on the internet or do I have to buy the magazine?

The weekend goes way too fast.  I wi**** was longer or I could put the weekend on slow motion.  Enjoy your Halloween everyone.  Bye

Here is the link from the web site for several of the articles from this issue. Look on the left side and down about half way is the article titled: Organic Food: What's Really Worth It.

Good Housekeeping is my favorite mag.

Good Morning.

Trying to get dishes washed before I head off to yet another party this weekend (4 in total) and then back home for the treak or treating. Scott takes Morgan out in the neighborhood and I stay home to hand out candy. We usually have around 40 kids.

Trying to find some Halloween receipes for them when they get home home. I think this year it is Bloody Soup (tomato soup) and Pizza Mummies (english muffin) for dinner. I always like to have something warm for them when they get home and something better to eat before the feasting of the candy begins.

Crystal good luck with your shopping. I plan to begin in ernest next week.

Have a wonderful scary day!

I read the article.  I don't really buy organic for the taste.  So I really don't mind if the name brand counter part tastes better.

I also only buy organic with meat, produce and dairy..also marinara sauce.  I buy organic because it is better for the environment.  Also because I don't want pesticides, hormones and antibiotics in my food.  I buy organic products because the animals tend to be humanely treated and are fed diets that they are supposed to eat unlike some places that feed there animals corn because it's cheaper.  Forcing cows to eat corn or other things that they aren't meant to eat is bad for the animal's digestive tract and tends to cause more infection and ecoli ....ewww.  That is why organic meat will say "grass fed".  That is very important.

I also noticed that organic dairy products have a longer shelf life, which is good for a single person.  I don't always finish my food before it goes bad.

I know it's not for everyone because it costs more (especially if you have a family to feed) and some people either don't care or don't believe any of the organic claims.  Beyond organic I also make my food homemade...nothing out of boxes (like hamburger helper or mac and cheese) it is so full of chemical and things I can't even pronounce.  The way I look at it if we are going to eat better I might as well go one step further and eat clean with as liitle chemicals and preservatives as posible.  My daughter and nut know more about this than I do but I know that they are right and should try to clean up my eating habbits.  Ok I will get off my soap box now...

You are not on a soap box. All of us have something to add and to help educate the rest of us. We are all here to help one another. Thanks for all the info that you give us.

Happy Halloween Illinois!

Nothing on the agenda today...just a lazy day for us....

I don't buy all organic but I don't usually buy prepared foods either. My husband has high blood pressure and there is way too much sodium in prepared foods. Most things we eat are homemade, less sodium and better taste!

Hope everyone has an enjoyable day!
Carol
