Tomrrow is the big day!!!!
RE: Pepsi, I think I was addicted to Diet Coke. I stopped cold turkey on my pre op diet and haven't had one in almost a year. I now drink water and decaf iced tea.

I was really surprised coming out of it, I was in major pain and it absolutely hurt to move anything in any direction. I was given dilaudid, hydrocodone 350 pap. Dilaudid was in a pain pump and if you fell asleep for any length of time it seemed impossible to get the pain med caught up to the level I was experiencing. This is the most pain I have ever experienced, and I have had 3 c-sections and Gall bladder removed. At the end of my stay the afternoon before, after many doctors were seeing me to okay my leaving the next day--none of them could examine me very well because of the level of pain I was in--that was with Dilaudid and increased level of hydrocodone. Finally, got the level up to where I was able to move around the halls and when I was able to do that ( walk around) I started feeling much better. Still took my pain meds for the first week home--very scared to go without it, remembering those first couple days. I say all this while telling you I am a nurse, and I have never had or seen this level of excellence in care that I had the whole time I was there, the whole staff and all the doctors were absolutely the best. Before I left the nurse decided to remove my drain as often this is source of discomfort post-op. Definetly had some relief when she pulled that out.
As far as nausea there are many anti-nausea meds available, so if your insurance doesn't cover one there are many more available.
I think that it would have helped me if I would have heard just one person say the pain can be very bad. . In all the books I read and seminars not one mentioned post op pain but very fleetingly--it would have helped because the decision to do this surgery is big as you well know, it was hard to feel okay with my decision when I was unprepared for the possibility of that much pain and had to deal with buyers remorse because of the pain.
3 weeks out, I am doing well, no Pepsi cravings, no pain, 25 lbs gone, getting around very well, no regrets at all.

Best of luck to you. I also really had a hard time with nausea. I wish I would have asked for a prescription to take once I was released from the hospital. I got one a few days after I got home and it helped immensely. If I were you, I'd ask for one.
Also, it was pretty painful but after 7 months, the details are fading. It is definitely worth it. I'll be thinking of you today.

From one Lisa to another, you will be find. You will have some pain. You are having major surgery. It is all in the way you precieve it. If you stay positive, and don't think of it, you will be better.
Good luck and we will all be waiting for your report on your surgery.
Huggers, LISA
Good luck!!
I too was addicted to soda and also stopped cold turkey on the first day of my pre-op diet. I haven't had any since. I do once in a great while crave it but I can handle the cravings.
I think there's a lot pain with RNY than the Bands. My experience was actually less pain than my gall bladder surgery. I was really doing pretty good pain wise in a couple of days. I was tender but not in pain. I did have issues with dizziness and nausea. I just didn't feel good the first week.
Let us know how you're doing
