Starting on a journey

Well, here i am on the road to MY recovery. A long road I know but I am looking forward to every bit of it. Good, Bad or Ugly because in the long run its all about doing it for me. I am on my medically supervised diet now for 3 months in hopes that I can lose 6 lbs. I truly believe I can do it. Clearance test have been scheduled for the end of this month so hopefully all of this will be out of the way by the time December rolls around. Which I am sure that it will be here soon.

Any suggestions on low calorie foods? I had just thought I would do like the Atkins diet and eat no carbs and see what happens. My hardest part will be during the day at work when I'm used to be munching on stuff or in the middle of the night when I cant sleep. I have brought apples to eat at work when I want to munch and I chew sugar free gum but I am still having problems. But I will get through this. I know I can.
Any suggestions anyone may have get through those crunch times would be appreciated.
Its going to be a beautiful weekend so enjoy, it may be the last warm one.

Have a great day

Lori

Congratulations on making the changes for a new life.

The best advise I can give is to eat small portions every 3 hours.  Balance is the key.   Low/no carb only works for the short term.  Begin to incorporate the changes for after surgery into your life NOW.  It is a learning process and an life change, not a "DIET"----diets DON"T work.

Small portions, 5-6 times per day and begin to exercise.  Walking is a good start.  These are things you will be doing forever.

Vegetables are a great snack.  I LOVE sugar pea pods dipped in a cheese spread from the local grocery.  Another good snack is sliced deli meat spread with cream cheese and rolled up, maybe around a pickle or asparagus spear, green bean or pea pod.  Low fat cottage cheese is good too.

Also, don't forget how importan****er is.  64 oz per day.  Many times, when you think you are hungry, you are really thirsty.  Have a glass of water or Crystal light BEFORE turning to food.

Again.......WELCOME and CONGRATS!!!!!

 Hi Lori

Welcome to you life changing journey1  You have made a major step in the right direction which is the choice to do something.  Good luck on your supervised diet.  Is your doctor setting the goal of losing 6 lbs or are you?  The reason I ask, is that not everyone loses weight on their diet.  I gained on mine.    I did go on to lose 40 lbs on my pre op diet.  One of the things that save me is sugar free popcicles.  I LOVE the crunch!  It seems to take away my cravings.  When I want to snack I will try a popcicle first.  Usually that will take care of the urge.  It is more chewing on something than eating that I am craving.  Another favorite snack is celery sticks with salsa for a dip.  Lots of chewing and low in calories.  A dill pickle is another favorite.

Good luck to you and come back often.  We love friends and offering support!

Nancy
