Update
Well, things went very good. It was fast and relatively painless. The numbing injections were the worst of all of it - two yanks and it was out
. I am having more issues with the allergic reaction to the antibiotic. In fact there are areas of skin that are confined to certain under garments that are causing more rashes than I have had in the last couple of days. I have a steroid free lotion (Sarna) to apply to the skin. I am taking the day off from work tomorrow due to the itching and I know that I will not be comfortable in my stiff uniform shirt. I should have let the oral surgeon prescribe the steroid med for me because the Benadryl only works for a couple of hours. I am going to call him tomorrow to see what he says about the allergic reaction and having a script called into Target.
I will check in tomorrow at the daily roll call.

Allergic reactions are the worst. I never had one like yours. In fact I never had one period until a couple of weeks ago. Does this mean you can't take any anti-biotics? That sucks if it's true. Well relax and try not to scratch too much. I'm glad your dentist appointment went well. I'm not really afraid of much but I have this irrational fear of dentists. The last time I went the doctor gave me a prescription anti-anxiety pill. I hate dentists more than anything.
No, there are other antibiotics that are not penicillin based that I can take. The oral surgeon put me on a Z Pak for the PO prevention of infection.
I thought as of this morning I had turned the corner because the welts were going down but now I look like I have the measles and yes it itches big time. I could not see where one hive startes/stopped and another one begins. I am staying home tomorrow so I can take the Benedry which makes me sleepy.

I am sorry that you have joined the elite club of those allergic to penicillin. It is no fun to be in the club. Somehow you always end up there the hard way and have to go through misery until the reaction is out of your system. I feel for you. I have been there and done that. At least now you know it is a fact. Your next challenge will be to convince doctors that you indeed cannot take penicillin. I cannot believe the number that I have had to argue with over the years.
I actually refused to take a prescription once because the doctor did not believe me.
There are plenty of antibiotics that still work. The doctor just has to either be familiar with some of the old antibiotics or do some research. You have to stay firm and stand your ground. That is why I suggested you let your pharmacist know as well because things still slip through.
I hope your reaction is short lived. Hang in there!
