Got my date!!!
Northwestern called me and gave me my date for my Gastric Bypass surgery!! It is scheduled for October 27th. I am excited, nervous and have mixed emotions now that I have the date. I dont really think it ha**** me yet, since when she called, I had a fever. I somehow caught Mono and have been sicker than a dog since Tuesday. But anyway, just wanted to let everyone know the good news!!
Congrats! You'll be one month after me --- I'm doing RNY w/ Nagle at NMH on the 27th of Sept.
Starting yesterday, I've been on the 10-day pre-op diet. The pre-op diet is not so bad, but it's seriously shocking to me to have to curb my calories to about 1,000/day and limit carbs so much. I had no idea that carbs made up such a big part of my traditional diet. I just survived a big, celebratory Mexican feast at a Pilsen restaurant tonight. I did eat 4 chips b/c it seems that low-carb is OK on this diet (it's not a no-carb diet). The rest was meat & veggie with a spoonful of beans. I had canceled all my scheduled snacks today to accommodate the party food. Still, I typically would chow down two baskets of chips myself. No kidding. --- I am soooo thankful NMH doesn't do the liquid pre-op diet. I'm not sure I'd make it. I'm learning a lot about my habits on this diet, so I'm thankful for that. I have to figure out what to do when I'm not eating. This is a new problem. But a good problem. :)
Tip: Schedule your pre-op labs for as many days before your sugery as possible; in case they discover something, you have a better chance of not having your surg date postponed. I think you can get them 21 days before your Oct. 27 surg date.
Best wishes to you with your RNY and new lifestyle!

Oh, yep: whole foods. It's...
a breakfast protein shake of around 15g protein,
1/2 c fruit for snack,
a low-carb/high-protein frozen meal or 3-4 oz of lean meat for lunch + a 1/2 c veggies,
(for me) a snack of a protein shake - i move this shake from a nighttime snack before bed to an afternoon snack to help me make it to dinnertime,
another a low-carb/high-protein frozen meal or 3-4 oz of lean meat for lunch + a 1/2 c veggies for dinner, and
a salad as nighttime snack.
The veggies can be cooked or raw.
Also, they've said nothing about a pre-op "plumbing cleaner," w/c is nice.
I assume he's not putting his patients at risk with this all.
Oh, also, he starts you on purees as soon as you leave the hospital.

Congrats.
I think that you need to contact the doc's office about the mono. That is a serious viral infection that your body is fighting. Please check out this site for info. https://health.google.com/health/ref/Mononucleosis If it were me I do not think I would want to be fighting mono and then going through major surgery.
