Just starting

I am starting this journey for weight loss and came upon this group.  I recently met my doctor who gave me wonderful information for both the gastric and lap band surgery.  I need to research both more and decide which one would be best for me.  I would love to hear from someone who has had either surgery and can give me some advice.

Welcome to the Illinois Board!  We are a very friendly and supportive group.

I had the RNY, and have been pretty happy with the improvement in my life and health.  I figured I would only get one chance at this and chose RNY over band as a more permanent solution (at least to ME).  That, and the idea of a port and fills kind of creeped me out.  That is just me though.  I have many friends here with the Lap-Band and many of them have done very well and are very happy. 

The decision is very personal for each of us.  There are pros and cons to everything in life.

Make sure to research ALL of your options. A lot of it depends on current BMI, comorbities, expectations, and so forth. Lap Band and RNY (gastric bypass) are not the only 2 surgeries available to you unless these are the only ones your surgeon performs and you have made up your mind to stay with this particular surgeon.
