St Joe's in Joliet

Hello all,

Newbie here.  Just wondering if there is anyone out there who had their surgery at Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.  Any comments?
Also, anyone have United Healthcare insurance?  Waiting out the dam 6 month supervised diet.  LOL

Good Morning and Welcome to the Illinois Board. My surgery was done at Alexian Bros. in Elk grove Village, but, like Crystal, I want to welcome you and also invite you to the Roll Call. We are all one big happy family. We  usually  can answer most of your questions if not, we can find someone who can. This is a wonderful journey to be on. Enjoy it, you are in for an adventure that will last a lifetime.

Hi Tinks/everyone,

My wife and I have United Health Care formely GEHA, not sure if that is the same one since our insurance card has a ton of different things on it.  I personally had my operation at Silver Cross (Hospital that my surgeon works out of) but my wife gave birth to my son there. I know that doesn't really help too much but the birthing wing is really nice. 

Thank you so much for such a warm welcome.  I have been lurking in the forums for a while, and just decided to jump on in and get my feet wet....LOL....and the water is just fine..

 I had my surgery there almost 5 years ago.  I am more than willing to answer any questions you may have.  I did not have the same insurance as you but I did have to do the 6 month supervised diet too.

Is Dr. M. still the surgeon there?  

I have not been logged on to the boards in a long time but will gladly check back to see if you have any questions!!

Hi Nancy,

Yes, Dr M. is still there.  I won't even try to spell it, let alone pronounce his last name.  LOL.   He even has a partner now.  Very nice doctor, I attended the WLS seminar that he hosted.

I have been unable to find anyone else on the boards who had their WLS at PSJMC, so I am so glad to hear from you.  Just wondering what your experience was like?

 After I posted I saw who you listed as your doctor and realized he must still be there.

I had a fantastic experience!!  I love Dr. Peter.  The whole experience everything I went through was fantastic.

I do not attend support group meetings anymore.  Have you attended any of the meetings?  That would be my only hesitation that I would have if I was you.  I did not really feel that I had any support in the meetings.  The lady that ran the meetings is no longer at the hospital so I am not sure how they are run anymore.

I am a bad post op patient!!  I have not been for any of my follow ups in a couple of years as I have gained some of my weight back (not much but more than i would have liked) and so I am a little embarrased to go back and see him.  After writing this I am thinking that I will make my 5 year appointment and go back and see him.

When you have a surgery date please let me know.  If you have any specific questions please let me know.  In my opinion you are picking a fantastic doctor and you will have a great experience!!
