Hi all. I believe my quest for Gastric Bypass has come to an end. Had an appointment with the doctor today and was told AGAIN that medicaid does not cover Gastric Bypass or Sleeve. I had a letter from Medicaid that said they cover as long as the Physician finds it necessary but was told that Medicaid does not cover the inpatient hospital stay after the surgery. Huh??? She said she is going to make sure, but she doesnt think it will be approved. I am so disappointed. I had so many plans. I was going to go back and finish my nursing degree, but I can hardly walk anymore. I feel so lost right now, I dont know what to do. And I have gained another 2 lbs. I thought having a letter would help, but I guess not. I feel like I have wasted my time since I cant get the Lap Band due to an Autoimmune disease.

I dont know how much longer I am going to be able to walk because of the pain in my legs. I think maybe I was fooloing myself into thinking I would get the surgery, but I kept trying. I wish everyone luck with their surgery and their weight loss journey. I am just going to wait for the final call from the office adn dread hearing the words, "you cant get the surgery".

UPDATE

Just was told that the Gastric Bypass and Sleeve are not approved at the HOSPITAL since the hospital does not get paid. I have never heard such a thing in my life. So basically, I have to go somewhere else now. I have wasted 3 months when all along it was never going to be approved. What is this? I am so outraged right now by not being told flat out from day 1 that couldnt do it because of  the hospital.

Actually, I contacted Northwestern Memorial and a Dr. Constantine Frantzides out of St. francis Hospital and they both take Medicaid for the surgery and after care. I am going to keep searching, I am just frustrated that 3 months have gone by already.

Do you know if all the tests I have done and the nutrionist visits can be used? I know they do at the surgeon with St. Francis, but at Northwestern you still have to do 3 visits with their nutritionist.

My best friend went to Dr Ayloo for her LapBand surgery.  My friend was able to use previous nutrtionist visits towards her monthly weigh ins so I am pretty sure you can transfer tests and everything.  I good luck...hang in there

Does Dr Ayloo accept Medicaid for Gastric Bypass and Sleeve? I have Lupus so I am unable to get a Lap Band.

Sorry for the late response had to email some friends.  She said that they accepted all her stuff.  So give them a call there are actually a lot of places that take medicaid for lap band look at the thread above for the surgon list.   Start with the oldest thread  here is a direct link...

http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/IL/3461375/MEDICAID-AND-ME DICARE-SURGEONS-LIST/

If none of those surgons are good for you let me know and I can call my surgeon he does gastric bypass at Alexian Brothers. I can give you the number to his assistant and mercy and she can put you in contact with the other office. If possible get your medical records immediately. The sooner the better. I hope this helps and PLEASE don't give up! I praying that you find the answers and help you need.

Regards,
