After researching all of the surgery's  I have decided that DS is the only choice for me.  Of that I am sure.  I know that this is what I need.   for my BMI and the long term of my health

Hi there,

I had surgery with Dr. Alverdy at the University of Chicago. I am VERY VERY pleased with my choice of surgeon. Let me know if you have any questions. I am still a baby at this DS thing, but I am 100 lbs, lighter , and feel awesome.

I enjoyed every nurse and any assistant that I spoke with during the surgery and after.

I just LOVE the staff there. Although you know there is always one bad apple out of the bunch.

My surgery was with Dr Prachand and I am very pleased.  I know of a couple of folks that have gone with Dr Alverdy too and they also have nothing but good things to say.

If I can answer any specific question please feel free to ask.

Hey Denise-

I'm a hopeful U of C programmee.  I had them last year had to leave the program and am restarting it....I love their program Their surgeons have done some extensive research in the area and that means alot to me.

THe only thing i would caution you on...is they have a wait time...they only see patients on wednesdays for their meeting with surgeon, dietician, and psyc.  I made my appointment in January their first available was in March, I had to turn that appointment down and I got an appointment on April 21 they had to cancel it and I then got my appointment just yesterday.  However I think it is well worth the wait.

Good Luck

Hi Denise,

I had my DS with Dr. Prachand at U of C on 1/29/10.  The surgery went well and he is great.  I will agree that initially the staff was not friendly and I thought about changing programs.  However, I thought about the fact that the 2 doctors over that program are really well respected and the success of their program is great.  I wanted the best I could get.  I later found that the staff that I had to deal with were really nice.  Tracy and Angela and the dietician Christy.  You will have to wait a long time for appointments so you should plan on being there the WHOLE day!  The good thing is that once I see Dr P I feel good because he spends time with me and answers all of my questions.  He really seems like he cares.  No question is stupid or dumb.  I love that and I forget the fact that I've been at the hospital for hours LOL.

Please feel free to reach out to me for any questions.  I've lost 60 lbs since Feb!!!!
