Blood sugar issues/Blood work
I have been having problems with my blood sugar lately. Not getting to high, but dropping too low. The Dr told me about a year ago that I was hypoglycemic but it's starting to happen quite often lately.
I am supposed to be above 70 and I have been as low as 53, that was scary. I get really shakey and just feel funny.
Any ideas of what I can do to help stabalize it or what kind of Dr I should maybe see? My PCP whom I loved, has decided to move to Florida so I'm out a PCP again.
Any ideas in the North Aurora/Naperville area?? I want someone who deals with WLS patients.
Also I am coming up on my 2 year appointment and was wondering who you guys all get your bloodwork done through? I thought that some of you actually got it done at your PCP's office and then just brought copies with you to the appointment with the surgeon?? How do you know what tests to have done?
Thanks in advance

Monica, I'm so sorry.
I think you should get a glucose meter. Then the next time you feel bad take your blood sugar levels. If it is lower than it should be... they have glucose tablets you can take that will help raise your blood sugar.
As far as a PCP that specializes in WLS... I don't know. The PCP I have is great and understanding of my surgery but has no knowledge of WLS.
Let me know what you find as far as a PCP. But don't delay. Don't mess around with blood sugar levels.

I see my PCP for my diabetes, but in the hospital after surgery I saw an endochronologist, who I believe specializes in diabetes as well as other diseases/disorders.
My PCP is great, too. I think she sees other patients that have had WLS, but she was not involved my decision to have WLS. She's not negative about it. She is in Elmhurst. That is a bit of a drive for you, though.
My PCP does my blood work. They do a variety of tests: hemoglobin A1C, kidney and liver function b/c of meds I'm on, cholesterol (HDL, LDL, etc.). And those are the ones I know about, but they could do more.
Do you have an HMO or PPO? I think that will determine if you need to get a PCP first or an endochronologist.

Lisa, my only concern with that is that they take FOREVER to get the results to you! I don't know if you remember but last year I had to call like 15 times and get really mad before they finally called me back and told me that numbers were off and whatnot. I love the Kane Center for surgery, but follow up sucks there! sorry fellow Kaners...
Monica, I remember your issues with them last year. What happens with Dave is that his given the written order before he leaves with his previous year's appointment then he goes to Alexian Brothers and has the blood drawn about 3 weeks before he goes into his yearly apt. His results are ALWAYS in his chart when he goes in for his yearly appointment. Call them and ask for the sheet of paper for the blood draw. They should know what you mean when you call.
