X Post - Tips for Newbies
1. Research ALL surgery types.
2. Stay on top of your protein, H2O and vitamins.
3. Make sure you get your labs drawn often and keep a spreadsheet. Track your trends and tweak when necessary. My D is sliding big time, but I saw it coming. I just ordered 50,000 IUs of D from VitaLady.
4. Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) is hot
5. Use TWO forms of birth control. Getting preggers early is NOT a good thing.
6. Your pouch is the boss. Don't pu****s' buttons....you will regret it.
7. Get it moving. Exercise in any form is vital. If you can't get to the club, watch the FREE exercise videos that most cable companies offer.
8. Calcium Citrate, not Calcium Carbonate.
9. Don't worry about losing your curves or too much weight. Instead, concentrate on losing diabetes, hypertension or other co-morbidities.
10. You will need an *understanding* support system in place. Find and attend a support group meeting BEFORE surgery.
11. Less is best when prepping for your hospital stay. Toothbrush, paste, clean underwear and slippers.
12. Transfer addiction is REAL. Drinking, shopping, gambling, SEX...it can happen.

Good tips!
Holy crap--I just read a cute interview with Dwayne and he IS adorable (and HOT as hell). His mom found a list of goals he wanted to achieve when he was 24 and he framed it. It was things like get his grandma a home (she was homeless) and get his parents a house, marry his wife (he is now divorced from her, but they share kid custody and it works better than ever now) and he has accomplished all of those things. Nice.

I had the kick-butt duodenal switch (DS)!
HW: 344 lbs CW: 150 lbs
Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea GONE!
Thanks Nicolle!
I'm just floored at the number of newbies who have never heard of the VSG or DS. I'm doing well with my RNY and I don't regret my decision. I'm working the hell out of my tool and I LOVE it.
There are so many out there who could truly benefit from research. Whether it's a site that is dedicated to the particular surgery, OH, Wiki or even Google. There was a lady at my support group who weighed over 350lbs and had a crap load of co-morbidities. When I mentioned the DS, she told me her PCP told her the safest surgery was the band. Also the PCP would only write the recommendation letter for the LB. WTF???? We have to take control of our health. I'm not knocking the band, but if I had the issues that she did, I would seriously consider another surgery.
And yeah....Mr. Johnson can have me ON A PLATTER any day of the week!
