Friday Roll Call!!!
Woohoo Nancy!! I can totally relate to the feeling of freedom when you can finally take some steps without the third leg. I had to use a cane for a few months due to a BAD flare of bursitis in my right knee. After I finally gave in and got a cortisone shot I was sooooooooo happy to be done with the cane. I still have it in my van just in case, but it's nice to not have to rely on it all the time.
Right now I am over the moon with happiness and excitement. I went to the NUT/PN today for the first time. It went so well. They were so nice, nonjudgemental, supportive and informative. First I met with the NUT who went over my diet currently and all past diets, asked me which procedure I wanted and why. I told her the RNY and that when I did all my research and compared it to Lap Band and considered what results I wanted and what I know about myself. She seemed pretty happy with that answer. She told me about what I could expect leading up to the surgery as far as my diet. I'll have to do a high protein/low carb diet and she'll teach me more about it as we get closer to that time.
Then I met the NP who was even nicer, friendlier and open. We discussed my very lengthy/messed up medical history. She admitted that just from her assessment I've been through an awful lot and am only 34. She ordered some basic panels for the lab work, I have to get a PAP (I haven't gone in like 4 years, I hate going to the GYN so I avoid it at all costs), and I have to get a letter from my Rheumatologist stating that he is aware that I'm getting the RNY and that he is supportive of it. Not a prob, I've already talked to him about it and he was fine with it. The NP then told me that I have to attend 3 preop classes (one each month), see a psych consult, meet the surgeon, then they can schedule my surgery date. Of course, me being motivated, already finished my lab work while I was there, scheduled my first class (Feb. 2nd!!) and will have my psych consult on Monday!! Woohoo!! According to the schedule of tasks they gave me I will be half way done by Feb. 3rd with the requirements!! The NP said that at the rate I'm getting things done and my motivation I might be able to have surgery by early May! That would be the PERFECT Mother's Day present!!
I am so happy I want to find the tallest mountain and scream a tribal scream of joy/hope/ and relief!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ok this is a long one, I'll stop chattering now! TGIF!
