Hi Nancy and  OH friends,
Earl had a different experience with his 2nd knee replacement too and I heard that from someone else also. Earl chalked it up to having a different therapist the 2nd time..thought that one tried to move his knee along too fast compared to the first one and then it froze up so he had a couple times where he had to go back and the ortho had to free it up under anesthesia. took about 3 months longer for the 2nd one to be ok.

Last night I did my weight and core exercises on the balance ball.  It  felt  weird. The physical therapist thinks that if I strengthen my core I'll have less balance issues. I was sure the ball would burst under me or I'd fall off but did ok. I did 30 reps with each arm of each of  the 6 arm exercises with the weights last night. I'm doing the biggest loser WII every other night and on the off nights doing the WII Fit. There are alot of the exercises on the B.L. that I cant do with my back.  Hope between all 3 I see some progress.  Working on the food...Earl and I did a major grocery stock up shopping Sunday, and yesterday went and got some fresh fruit and fresh vegies.  Earl is working on getting the rest of the holiday food out of here...took 2 buckets of cookies to the nursing home for the staff yesterday and some of the frozen banana breads to my ex-son-in-law. The rest will go to my  mom and skinny friends..I need to adjust my attitude about throwing food out..I feel like it is wasteful in this economy to throw it out but I know I can't have it here accessible to me. The cookies don't bother me but the bread  and the salty foods call my name.  I am back to drinking water and writing everything down that goes in my mouth.  Small steps but steps in the right direction again.
Have a great day everyone!  Paulette

Hi Paulette,

Now what you mean about throwing out...yet that is just what I did with cookies/candy I had sitting around that I was munching on!  I knew I just had to get rid of it because too much of it was going in me as it called my name in the evening!  Goes back to taking care of ourselves because no one else will!  Congrats on adjusting for the situation.  georgie

It is interesting that Earl had different experiences with both knees.  The ortho doctor tells me the same thing.  What I cant figure out is this one is more flexible than the right knee was but is more painful and stiff.  Maybe it is because I have been pushed harder in physical therapy.  I never thought about that.  Also they tell me I am being impatient.  Tell me something new!

I got a Wii  fit for Christmas and have finally got it hooked up.  Cant wait to get exercising!

Earl's doc thought that the different therapist after  the 2nd knee replacement, tried to push Earl to far too fast and over extended his knee which caused the ligaments to swell and freeze up so the doc had to  put Earl under anesthesia and manually manipulate the knee to get it moving again..needless to say after that EArl requested the first therapist come back!

Yay halfway to the weekend!

Hi, I'm new! My name is Carol and I live in Ottawa (Illinois, not Canada!! Everyone always thinks that!)

I am trying not to go crazy today, I keep thinking about my first consult next friday, I cannot wait for it.  I want the days to fly by.

Today I'm hanging out with my 3 yr old before I go in for work.  I am the lunch room/recess monitor at my kids school.  It's a lot of fun but having inside recess due to the cold is not so much fun.  The kids get a little stir crazy after a day or two of this.

Then I'm off to our school parent club meeting that I am president of.  Hopefully it will go smoothly tonight, we have a lot of tough issues to deal with this month. Blah =(

Not looking forward to all of this snow they are calling for.  Hope they are wrong.  I definitely don't want a snow day tomorrow!!!! The kids just went back to school this week after 2 weeks of winter vacation.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning Nancy and IL,

Nancy, sorry for the slow progress!  If you are feeling well enough and your doctor will let you and your work allows, it prbly would be best to go back on a part time schedule.  I work in HR and it can be a crap shoot when FMLA runs out, especially during these times.  But again, if they aren't laying off and have no plans, you are prbly fine!

Nothing going on here.  Crystal, I think you said you get a fill soon, so I wouldn't cancel that trip.  This may be the magic fill!  Keep working the band and I know the weight will fall off, even if slowly!  You are so looking forward to the trip!  You deserve to go.

Kathy, good luck with your meeting today. I told you my previous experience, but don't let that influence you!  lOL  Hopefully Cherrish will run it and it will be an excellent experience.  (Let me know how it goes!!)

Don't know much else.  Have a warm day!  georgie

 Thanks Georgie.

I feel the same way.  I took my papers in today asking to restart on Monday.  My first two weeks I have requested to work part time.  Headquarters does not see any problems but we have to send the papers through all the formal steps.  Red tape.    They also wrote in my papers that I need a break every two hours to move around.  That should also help.  I should hear for sure tomorrow.  I am not worried at this point.
