Dear Shawn:

You sound like you have a good handle on things and are getting started on the right foot.

Shwan, Welcome to the Illinois board.  You are headed down the right road.  How long is your supervised period?  What ins do you have.  Stop by and keep us posted how you are doing.  Everyone is very helpful if you have any questions.

my period is 3 months, i have blue cross blue shield, i just changed in Dec from my HMO over to a PPO. I also just scheduled my exercise consult also. So all i left to do is my initial consult and then my bloodwork, hopefully by March 7th, everything will be ready to go over to the insurance, and i hope to have surgery in April.

Sounds like you are well on your way!  I know it seems like a long road now but it will fly by before you know!  My BF has BCBS so I have to ask- is the 3 month diet all they are requiring?  Which surgery have they said they cover?  He wants to have surgery now since I am doing to well!  Keep us updated on your progress!

bcbs covers the lap band and the bypass, depending on your BMI there are certain restrictions, they require a 3 month superivsed diet plan within a 2 year period,  they require a certain BMI but i cannot remember, if your friend calls them they will tell u over the phone.

Smart cookie to start the clock on that 3-mo program. I've been told to make sure your weight is documented at each meeting with a dietitian or in any nutrition class - for insurance documenation. Does this sound right to you?

all bcbs told me was the initial weight before startig the diet will be used as the qualifing bmi, so even if i ost 50lbs, my initial wieght bmi will be used.  I do know from experience that you should be weighed at every appointment, any good Dr. would already know that-hopefully
