First Holiday Post Op and Sad
So I made this big dinner for the 4 of us....and I sat down with my family, was able to eat 4 bites and was full. I sat there for another 20 minutes watching my kids and my husband eat...
Anyone else experiencing their first holiday dinner and feel kinda of sad you weren't able to eat just a little more?
*Sigh*

This was my second Thanksgiving. It gets better, I swear. I just got home from our Thanksgiving Food-a-palozza and it was awesome. I ate a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I really enjoyed every single thing. Hang in there!

I had the kick-butt duodenal switch (DS)!
HW: 344 lbs CW: 150 lbs
Type 2 diabetes and sleep apnea GONE!
I had one small bite of turkey, a bite of mashed potatoes and corn, a bite of sweet potatoes and a bite of cranberry sauce (which I think made me feel a lil dizzy for a few minutes, probably the sugar).
That's it, it was so sad watching my 3 & 2 year old eat 10 times as much as I can...

It does get easier. Say to yourself--"I can taste all these great tastes and still not be stuffed or eat a lot of calories!
I learned here: one bite to decide if the food is wonderful;
second bite to affirm that it is indeed wonderful and
third bite is the last bite! It really helps to look at food this way!

Your meal looks wonderful. This was my 3rd Thanksgiving, and I still only had a tspoon of this anda T of that. I still have problems keeping it down.
it was enjoyed never the less. You know how much you can eat. Thats all you can eat. Don't dwell on what use to be.

I know exactly what you mean. I'm six weeks out from surgery and I often I find myself feeling sad that I can't eat very much. I'm ashamed that I feel this way, that food has been and still is that important to me. It's one reason I had surgery. I know that I need to change this unhealthy relationship with food. I still hope I can eat more than two bites of turkey, one of green bean casserole, one of mashed potatoes and one of brussel sprouts next year!
I handled it by taking one bite and then talking for a bit, helping my daughter cut her turkey up, taking another small bite, then waiting some more. I offered to refill people's drinks, etc. That way, it took me as long to eat my tiny 6 bites as it did for everyone else to finish their meal.
I was usually the last one still eating at family gatherings. Things are very different now.
I hope you had a wonderful family time on Thanksgiving.
