Tuesday Roll Call
Good Tuesday to everyone.
Lucy, my mom broke her wrist and says you never know how much you use something until it's injured and you can't use it. I hope you feel better soon.
Crystal, congrats on your promotion....sorry about the Chinese food.
Sending prayers and good thoughts to Georgie today. Also to Omar and his recovery.
My daughter (who is 14) was supposed to come to the support group meeting with me on the 18th. She is against me having this surgery. She is afraid I won't come out of anesthesia, I had back surgery in 2007 and I had a horrible horrible recovery she is afraid this is going to be the same, she is afraid that I will be changing her lifestyle and she won't be able to eat her favorite foods (thank goodness she inheirited her father's genes and is a skinny mini), she said she will feel guilty eating in front of me. Anyway, now she is saying that she doesn't want to go to the support meeting. My sister who is coming says I should force her to go....any thoughts?

Erika,
My daughter, who is 17, was a little pessimistic about me having this surgery as well when I first started. She was worried that I would not make it through or that I would have complications. I asked her to come to the initial seminar to see if her views changed afterwards. It was a good experience for her and she is very supportive of my decision to have surgery. I think she finally understood everything and was more comfortable that she was more informed on things. Did your daughter get a chance to hear the seminar? If not, that might be the way to go...since there is no charge for it. I think information is the key to easing her concerns. That's what I did, and I hope it helps you.

Erika,
I'm thinking back to being a teenager here...I know now that I was a total brat to my Mom! As you said, your daughter is scared and worried for you. Even though she doesn't want to go to the support group meeting, my vote is for you to make her accompany you.
Even if she sulks the whole time, maybe she'll hear enough info to realize this is a GOOD thing you are doing for yourself.
I thought of something that my mom used to do with me: Could you two sit down and write some pros/cons? Ask her to write down all the reasons she doesn't want you to do the surgery. You write down all the reasons you want to and all the things you'll be able to do (like be around for her wedding!). Then discuss them together. Maybe that will help her understand your point of view, and she can feel like her concerns are understood?
I feel VERY lucky that my daughter is only 6! We didn't tell her any of the risks and she's been my biggest cheerleader.

Hi Erika. Thanks for your message.
I think it's important for your daughter to get her feelings out at the seminar. Someone there just may have some comforting words. She may hear other things that will comfort her. She doesn't want to chance it - losing her mom over this elective surgery. My sister had the hardese time adjusting to my new eating lifestyle.

Hello everyone!
I'm hoping that everyone has had a good day. Hope everyone is healing that needs to and that Georgie is doing well this evening!!
Today is day 8 of pre-op and it's like a routine now and I'm looking forward to next week when it's my turn. I'm off the next two days so I'm definitely getting some exercise in. Yesterday, my hubby and I went for a twenty minute walk and it felt good! I kept a steady pace and wasn't out of breath...it was the first time I felt that good during and after a walk.
Lisa, enjoy your day off tomorrow! I know I will.
Crystal - I am not a fan of Chinese either, and it would have been nice if they asked you first.
Crystal H - Congrats on the loss!! I hope the scale keeps moving in that direction for you!
I hope that everyone has a great evening!!

Hello everyone,
Well I got some good news this afternoon. I called the surgeons office and asked if there was anyway the could squeeze me in for a fill before Thanksgiving (I have been doing the same thing for the last couple of weeks) and they said sure how about 2:45 tomorrow. So yeah, I will have my fill before Thanksgiving and hopefully this will be the last. Because of my deductible I have to pay for all these fills and they are not cheap.
I hope Georgie is doing good. I am glad to see our losers are feeling better.
Paul, Since you have started excercising I bet you are just building muscle. Have your wife measure you now and then in a couple of weeks.
Crystal I hate chinese food too, I also agree that they should have consulted you also. But at least you are in the right frame of mind that it is better for your weight loss anyways. Sometimes god works in mysterious ways.
Lucy, I hope you get some pain relief soon.
Better get going before I have to get to bed. Talk to everyone tomorrow.

Wow, everyone's got a lot going on! I had a class in Chicago today, so I left at 0600 this morning and was gone all day. The class is 1 x/week for a month and is preparation for the Critical Care nurse Certification exam. I really want to pass it and it's a scary test. My cardiac/respiratory knowledge is good, but I'm useless when it comes to neurology (brain) and surgery.
Crystal - I'm glad your company is celebrating your promotion, how nice! What a great attitude you have about the food part, that's good inspiration for me.
Lucy-BIG HUGS to you. I'm glad you were given time off work to heal and feel better.
Crystal H. -Hooray for your scale moving victory. I'm a few weeks behind you and smack dab in the middle of my first stall
Hope you continue to feel better.
I've been thinking about Georgie with the rest of you today! I wish continued success to our pre-op folks. Good for you for sticking with that diet. Anything that makes surgery safer is so important.
Eileen, Dawn, Deanna and Christine how are you gals doing? Hope everything is well. Dawn, are things getting easier/feeling better?
Good night all,
Stephanie
